Hello Steve!! Such a loss when Jimmy Watson died so young. Wonderful player and as you say a wonderful piece. Jimmy and Tippett remained good friends following their time together with the LSSO and latterly in his professional career - LSO, RPO, Covent Garden etc.

What a fantastic programme...after watching so many KZbin clips of Whit Friday across the years, I now understand what it's all about...and what a challenge it is for all involved!!

Lots of hype and nonsense. Nobody can claim that the rivalry between Brighouse and Fairy is the biggest in the band world. What about Dyke, Cory and Fodens for a start! To my mind, Dyke are at the top.

Played in and followed brass bands since the late 70s...probably the most inspiring bit of banding i've ever seen. If there's one good reason to keep brass bands alive..here it is!

Perhaps it's worth pointing out that Chav Brass arrived past the booking in point to compete but still wanted to do the street march to entertain the crowd . I criticised the band in previous posts thinking they had held up other bands behind them without knowing the facts , for which I apologise . Regards , Mark .

Great video from all those years ago . ( 25 as of the time of my comment in 2023 ) Some sadly missed people I spotted there , Ted Tooley ( founder of Uppermill Band an Shaw Youth ) , Peter Teal ( ex Brighouse & Rastrick ) and my friend ' Delphman ' Mark Rodgers playing Old Comrades on a road march with his local band .

The ups and downs of Besses are well documented throughout the Bands 200+ year history. Besses always found a way to adapt and reinvent itself and get back to the top in banding. It is a much more difficult thing to achieve nowadays Much much more difficult kzbin.info/www/bejne/qn_YfJKNZ7F3hc0

Eric was a fantastic man. The LSSO was the finest school orchestra in Britain for decades. I will never forget my time as a teenager being inspired by Eric and his superb staff. I think you will enjoy this video I made for a reunion in Birstall in 2020. I updated it in 2017. It's all about the EP era. It's an amateur job so don't expect miracles!! look forward to your comments. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXzFaZqIgrqamMk
