If the nozzle section of hose is 50' in length, why is your 'pull to' mark at 58'?
@vugibson
@vugibson 2 ай бұрын
The group who conducted our course validation marked the hose; their state interpretation of the rules led them to mark the hose at 8 foot mark, then place the second mark fifty feet from the first mark (58 feet). Re-reading the rules now makes me question that determination; rules state: "hose is marked at 8 feet past the coupling at the nozzle and at 50 feet past the coupling at the nozzle." Based on that language, the validating group was incorrect. I'll be adjusting the second taped mark to fit with the rules. Thanks for asking the question; upon my reading of the rules, I agree that this was incorrect. Thank you for the assistance.

I'll add my tid bit. As everyone else has said, this tremendously helped me. I took my CPAT today and I made a huge effort to focus on my breathing. I would have easily struggled without finding this video. HOWEVER, at the end of the day the CPAT comes down to not giving up. Every tip and trick out there can help but it's truly about NOT FUCKING QUITTING. If you're reading this, you got this! Don't fucking quit. Keep your breath. Keep your wits. Embrace the suck. It's only 10 minutes. That's it.

Disregard my question in my previous comment - I didn't see that you commented on this video, too. Anyway, you might look at our breathing video - the breath coach, while he didn't have a lot of trouble with the test, didn't like the maze either. And he had some brief advice for those who are uncomfortable in the maze. Again, good luck and let us know how it went.

I’m nyc you cannot fall or step out that box in the last event it’s an automatic fail
@vugibson
@vugibson Жыл бұрын
Technically a candidate gets one warning for stepping out of the cage in the last Event; second time test is over. With that said, make sure you ask the staff at your testing facility how they are going to judge the test; if they say they're going to fail you after 1 step-out, then follow what they say.

So is the layout of the maze itself standardized? Like there are always going to be 5 obstacles but are the placement and order of the obstacles the same across different facilities? Like the first obstacle is the narrowing walls, second is partition, etc. or is this something that varies?
@vugibson
@vugibson Жыл бұрын
The maze should be the same at any CPAT testing facility. Only difference might be the building materials; some would be white with silver aluminum framing (like ours), or it will be made out of plywood.

Make sure you get a good meal in, and lots of water. Most of us take it in the morning, and fasting may seem like the right thing to stay light on your feet. Trust me, this screwed me during one of my practice runs. Good nights rest, solid breakfast, lots of water. Good luck everyone! 👊🏼💪🏼

Same here. I had a Clif bar, drank coffee, and then had a bottle of water. I tanked out during the dummy drag but was able to get to the ceiling breach. With just one last set left I failed because I stepped out of bounds twice due to low energy and being super dehydrated. I learned that lesson. I have my cpat scheduled for tomorrow 🤞

I was disqualified my first time for shouldering "too much slack" on the hose drag. Make sure you follow your department's standarts to the T. Because even though this is a national test.... certain departments will add extra steps to make it harder. Its frustrating but being fit is just one half of the test.

Correct. With our future tips and tricks videos, this will be highlighted: make sure to ask questions to the staff at your testing facility. Different facilities and staff interpret these rules differently.

She references her first attempt - the mental mistake she made was she entered the maze on the left-hand side and stayed on the left side, which caused her to ram the first obstacle. She then got a little lost, which cost her time and ultimately a failed attempt. Remember, as she did on her second attempt, when entering the maze stay along the right-hand side.

If you made it to the last event, you're close. Don't give up - just keep working in your preparation. Also, the experience you got with your last test will help you in subsequent attempts. Typically, everyone's worst test is their first test. On the first attempt, everyone is very cautious in the event completions. After doing it once, usually candidates move with more confidence on later attempts. Keep working and good luck in your prep.

Mental aspect of the stairmill can be difficult, especially if a candidate has a very close deadline to earn the certification. The mental part is an added weight in those circumstances.
