I believe the reason is that the station that was being listened to during that test covers a wide area, which includes numerous counties. The length of the first set of tones varies by the number of counties included in the message/watch/warning. The other station within range of me only covers 3 counties I think. With that, the tones would be much shorter.

Exactly what he said. When a NOAA Weather Radio station sends their weekly tests, they include their whole coverage area.

I actually don’t, surprisingly enough. The only thing I have is the Amtrak schedule, so I don’t know what engines are on what train. For me, I think it’s just the right place at the right time, to be fully honest.

Well, CSX bought out the original railroad that ran here, being Pan Am Railways, a couple years ago, maybe more than that. So, I guess this is technically CSX now.
