Plenty of Irish people want to live in Ireland, but it’s getting way too expensive despite people having decent paying jobs Christ, the last recession was a doddle for those who were single , still had a job of some sort snd didn’t have a mortgage Hell, even in the 1980s there were certain things that we didn’t have to worry too much about ie a roof over our heads and ability to get hospital services I entered my adulthood close the end of the so called celtic tiger , which means my time as a student was a blast . I don’t envy the 16-23 year olds of today . We got lucky.

I think you missed the bit about sponging off EU agri subsidies. Ireland's economy seems to be U.S. European headquarters and collecting EU agri subsidies on the vast swathes of rural land (it's called renting other people's land "for the maps" - where farmers rent other people's land not to use it at all but to claim EU farming subsidies on it). There is not just a shortage of rental properties but also of any infrastructure, such as healthcare which you already mentioned, but also of anyone wanting to do any work, tradesmen like plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc. Is it really believable thar a country which cannot produce skilled carpenters has people employable as skilled engineers by Apple, Google etc.? Seems more likely to be people hired to sit in an office to man sham headquarters to justify shifting taxable earnings to a low tax country while most people are content to be sitting at home collecting money from the government and the EU.

Yes, Ireland has seen significant numbers of people emigrating there in recent years. The country's strong economy, high standard of living, and welcoming culture make it an attractive destination for many. Ireland's position as a tech hub and its beautiful landscapes add to its appeal, drawing people from around the world to make it their new home.

Ireland is europes 15th richest country in terms of GDP and 2nd in terms of GDP per capita after Luxemberg.

It's fascinating to see how Ireland's economy has grown! Despite being the 15th richest country in Europe by GDP, Ireland ranks 2nd in GDP per capita right after Luxembourg. This highlights the remarkable economic progress Ireland has made, reflecting its strong economic policies and the prosperity of its residents. It's an impressive achievement for a relatively small nation!

I understand how challenging it can be when you're working hard just to cover rent and the basics. The cost of living has become incredibly high, making it difficult to secure a home without a substantial income. It's a tough situation many people are facing.

Tell me a western country where that is possible
@amazingjourneyofficial
@amazingjourneyofficial 3 ай бұрын
The cost of living can be high in many places, but some Western countries still offer affordable living options. Portugal, Spain, Greece, and parts of Italy and the Czech Republic have lower living costs, allowing for a comfortable lifestyle on a moderate income. These countries balance affordability with a high quality of life.

@@shmoko1989 I understand your skepticism. While it's true that Greece has a lower average income, the cost of living in Greece is also significantly lower than in Norway. Each country has its own economic challenges and advantages. Migration trends often depend on job opportunities and personal circumstances, not just the cost of living.
