Thanks! I have all the stuff out of the way and tomorrow I will try to get all the bolts you say and remove the cover. I watched all five and will watch again before I finish

Looking forward to a test run. Looks good. I just bought a used speeco super split and promptly jammed the rack and chewed a bunch of teeth down so now i havee to weld up the rack and try to geind teeth profiles on it. Those racks arent cheap.
@groutaone
@groutaone 4 күн бұрын
That does not sound good, I don't know what happened there however something to consider is never try to re-engage the rack when there is a log jam, the reason is because the rack can use a bit of travel distance to fully engage with the pinion, it there is a log jam, always un jam it first.
@groutaone
@groutaone 4 күн бұрын
Continued: However if the pusher was able to pull away from the jam I think then it should be fine to hit it again

@@groutaone It didn't. I couldn't get it to draw back so it just sat there grinding until the flywheels stopped after I killed the engine. I'm welding up the teeth on the rack now. Just doing a few and letting everything cool down in between so I don't cause the rack to bow. I'll sand a profile as clos as possible to the good teeth. It looks like the pinion is pretty worn down too. Hopefully it'll work again.

Instead of the stop rod, couldn’t you just add a short fat sheet metal screw to the underside of the flip lid in the front? Obviously not going through. A screw or two would add the necessary counter weight to reset it. John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not parish but have eternal life. Thank you Lord Jesus for that free gift.

Elegantly simple test thank you. I'll use on my DL650 V-Strom. Factory O ring chain at 22,000 miles & 16 years old it all still seems tight. But medium & long Tours are coming up - 1200 miles & 5500 miles each so gotta be sure.

Why didn’t you just press the bearing and plug back flush and then call it good no need to replace it. Just because you put it too deep just push it back where it should be. I don’t know.

I don't see anything wrong with a manual clutch but wouldn't a centrifugal go kart/chain saw style pulley clutch work? I'm guessing they don't offer in a dual belt configuration.
@groutaone
@groutaone 20 күн бұрын
After using my other kinetic log splitter without a clutch I thought it worked fairly well with the exception of starting the engine, there was a bit of belt wear though but not serious, this way there is no clutch to wear out or a clutch that may not fully disengage.

Just take the time to put a silicone/poly based sealant around all your screws when you install them. They won't leak, and they won't move. One expenditure of effort, and done.

Pro tip: when installing valve retainer clips, sit them down in the retainers closest to how they would install. place a plastic bag over them and then use your compressor tool to push them all down. The bag will flex but push the clips into the retainer quickly so you don’t have to mess with getting them in as much!

Is it me, or are the stock seats drilled out and press ins installed? I bought a brand new one-ringed head on eBay and one of the oEM cast hardened valve seats are pitted from a casting void, thus I need to replace it. Any suggestions?
@groutaone
@groutaone Ай бұрын
I don't think I would use that head as is, I would have to look at a factory Cummins head again but I suspect the seats are not ground into the cast iron but instead are inserts. I think first step would be to return it to seller, if that doesn't work then maybe check with a machine shop to see what it would cost to have that seat machined and have an insert installed, assuming your there is enough cast iron there to have it machined for such.

Great job! If you know how to mic, and have skills, people can do a lot of things like this themselves. One thing I woulda done different is, every time you give it a look, rotate the crank shaft so pressure sanding is spread in more areas from the shoelace. Keep up the great videos!
