The GNS pilot's manual actually says as much, though they call it a geodesic path(shortest distance over the surface, aka segment of great circle). This also applies to the use of a "direct-to" route. Victor airways(setting aside kinked airways) are inherently geodesic due to the nature of the physical radials.

Sir, Then Flight Plan is FFP=flight plan=select=direct=enter=way points=direct=enter. If it's correct then by 3years l am already good at safe flight plan and approach ,then l begin to study the vertical rules and ethics and Airspaces which l looks at the 18000ft to really confirm vertualy right now. Thanks for Your instructions and You Already have my signal from God.Are You Happy for Your Family too. Hold it right.

Where to get this emulator?

Hey there! Great video even after all these years I actually just got an airplane with a Garmin GNS 430 W. your air route traffic control center discussion would probably help me in the situation but yesterday I was flying near Providence Rhode Island and I’m flight following the controller gave me a frequency that I could not dial into the comm side of the radio. I believe it ended in 75 kHz and my radio just skipped over the 70 or 75 whatever it was so I thankfully had an older radio on comm 2 I was able to get that proper increment. So my question is How do you tune smaller kilohertz frequencies using the com knob on the left side?

Skip,or Ray As usual it's accurate, your videos mechanically calculated correctly and matching real worlds physics, it can be used not only in simulator, it's also works perfectly for real world flying. Thanks so much, and best regards 😊👍

Fantastic. Very clear. My computer is a Mac so won't load on Macs. Why did it cross EPTEG at 3700 and not 3200? Also if you see a GPS waypoint abbreviation marked as D258G what could that mean? Is it a DME arc or a track between D and G? Thanks.

Thank you for this GREAT video!! EXTREMELY well explained!! I'm an *FAA* Instrument rated commercial pilot. Having recently moved to Canada, and now in the process of converting my US licenses to their Canadian counterparts, this video was doubly helpful!!! I was just looking for a thorough refresher on IFR procedures on the 430W (I had become a bit rusty), and while this video did an AWESOME job on that, it was also incredibly helpful in subtly answering a lot of my questions on _CANADIAN SPECIFIC_ content (differences in rules, charts, procedures etc. between FAA and Nav Canada)!! Essentially killed two birds with one shot! 😀

Great Video, Ray- thanks for putting it together! My buddy has one of these, & watching him manipulate it in flight is different than actually doing it yourself, especially since it’s just not as intuitive as modern touchscreen navs. Thanks!

I liked the video. My only question is why you had to click DIRECT yo PERPU. Shouldnt the flight plan just fly to perpu once its engaged?
@747-pilot
@747-pilot 4 жыл бұрын
I used to be a bit confused about that too! The flight plan does not change based on where you *_currently_* are. So when you take off from the airport, you are not going to be on the exact route calculated by the flight plan. One way, would be to manually turn your aircraft towards the "magenta line" seen on the NAV page, and then track it as usual. But a *much better* way, would be to press the "DIRECT TO" button, and it will calculate a new "direct" route from your _present_ location to the next waypoint (PERPU, in this case). Also, many times, when you take off from a controlled airport (like a Class D or C, or even a B), ATC might vector you in different directions for many reasons, like avoiding traffic. Then they might say, something like, _"Cessna 198ME proceed on course"_ Now you are waaay off your FPL calculated course. The "DIRECT TO" button is very helpful here too!

Your videos are so helpful, if you only knew how appreciative I am for being subscribed to your channel. Thank you. I have a question for you please. Where can i do exactly what you just did here? I would like to use the Garman 430 just as you did here with the Garman tracking the plane in motion. I think this will help me much more since I am not in the air or have a professor sitting next to me. Thank you for your help in advance.

Garmin has a simulator program you can download to practice using the 430 and other units. I don't know about the others, but the 430 program is only supposed to work with Windows XP. I tried it on Win 10 and it doesn't work. You could probably make an XP emulator of some sort so that it will work on a newer computer. Otherwise, I've heard that you can use the free X-Plane simulator, and interface the 430 on the panel.

@@8literbeater I tried downloading the simulator trainer from Garmin . com and they did not have it anymore. The I found the one that was mentioned by you and had problems with it because my computer is a Win 7 Home Premium and not the "XP" version. However, I did find one that did work on my Windows version. Here is the link to it: www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3532

@@8literbeater If you right click on the program, do you have a "Run As" option - or something like that to run the program in Windows XP mode? FWIW I run the Garmin sim on a Linux machine, I would think there is a way to get Windows 10 to run it.
