me too, gutted by Wembley - that Greenhof goal was a total fluke. But Emlyn was such a great captain, remotivating the team and spurring them on to victory against 'Gladbach so soon afterwards. And yes, Keegan was just unstoppable at times, as Vogts found out!

yes exactly I was desperately looking for footage of that game for my 76-77 compilation but none exists....not even ap archive news footage.....it was 5 -1 at half time to Villa and Liverpools worst defeat till it was equaled away to Coventry in the early nineties and then beaten with a 6 -1 hammering away to Stoke at the end of the 14-15 season....we very rarely get thrashed in our history so that defeat in December 76 was shocking....followed a measure of revenge the following year at least. Hope you enjoyed the compliations. Best wishes.

Liverpool fan through and through, the late 70's are a bit before my time. For me this (era) was probably their finest team and much of this campaign especially is poorly documented elsewhere. Great stuff Matt, very well done for compiling this vintage stuff together! Cheers.

This great compilation captures a fantastic season for the reds but if you examine our away form that season it was very poor almost bottom of the table stuff. We only won five and scored only fifteen losing eight games we only scored more than one in one away game all season it was really our excellent home form that won us the league we probably didn't deserve to win the treble because of this and I hate to say this but when the Manks won it in 99 they were excellent home AND away

There was always a piece if action at the end of grandstand credits where a back post cross was just headed narrowly wide by keegan.(maybe ray kennedy) mid 70s. Do you know what game it was please? Possibly ipswich or Birmingham (sure it was dark blues opponents)

+elland1979 Thanks for the feedback and hope you enjoyed the vid. Andy Gray was always a menace to Liverpool back in the day and that was a very good Villa team in the late seventies. We extracted revenge later in the season at least!

Man Utds win over us in the 77 Cup final was our biggest hangover stopping us being the first to win the treble that stood until 2014 then Gerrard slipped and then that Chelsea win became the biggest defeat in the club's history the hangover of it lingers still
@wolves76559 жыл бұрын
+Giraffe Man If you are talking about bad defeats then I reckon losing the title to Arsenal in 89 is right up there! Losing the fa cup final in 77 was bad but we made it good a few days later...as for 2014 I dont really agree. For me to get so close to winning the league was a miracle. No one predicted Liverpool to be in the champions league places that year let alone win the league. The seasons I am archiving are when Liverpool were the best team in Europe. We are sadly not at that level these days so 2014 was an amazing season for me. Thanks for your comments and hope you enjoyed the video.
@giraffeman53539 жыл бұрын
+wolves76 Well done on the marvelous compilation Wolves76 and I hope you can do more the reason I say Chelsea 2014 is the worst is because all the other times we missed out on the title we had won the title in the not to distant past so the hunger wasn't as great but when you are waiting 24 years and Stephen Gerrard and the hillsborough support group really wanted it ,and rightly so, on the 25th anniversary it made it even more important to win also Stephen Gerrard was coming near to a career end and to lift it as a Liverpool born captain was so important. I don't agree that Arsenal 89 was more important because what happened at Hillsborough a month earlier overshadowed that and made us all realize football WASN'T more important than life or death after all as Bill Shankly quoted
@thenomad5258 жыл бұрын
Also agree about 2014 not being up there when it comes to major disappointments. For me watching Liverpool miss out on the Double in '88 as a 12 year old (to Wimbledon) was pretty gut wrenching...thank god I was away on a family holiday and missed the Arsenal game a year later! Anyway, thanks for the upload - brilliant stuff. Love watching the more obscure games and goals.

great videos even though I'm not a Liverpool fan - I'm looking forwards to your next effort hoping its 78/79 and includes the 1:1 draw with Leeds in Nov 78 which I think was on ITV.
@wolves76559 жыл бұрын
+mdnadams Thank you very much. Always good to get positive feedback from footy fans of whichever team. The game you mentioned was at Anfield and sadly not shown. There was an industrial dispute at the time and Granada who may well have covered the game had no football coverage between late October of 78 to early December of 78. Neither was it on the BBC. If you are interested here are two websites which show which games were covered by ITV and the BBC from the 60s to early 80s. They have been invaluable to me in my research so far. homepage.ntlworld.com/carousel/ITVfootball68-83.html sites.google.com/site/motdlistings/ I am researching 78/79 currently and trying to find any new footage I can, not just game footage but interviews etc. At this point I have neither Liverpool Leeds games from that season but I am not giving up yet! Thanks for the feedback and I hope you will enjoy the next video. Best wishes, Matt

Great footage here, some I'd seen before & some not. The 70s was the greatest era of football in this country, great players, great kits & great characters. Liverpool produced the greatest club side in my opinion 1978/79 but they were pretty special for the whole decade. Leeds 1971/72 season were a special side too one of those seasons when the best team DIDN'T win the league. By the way The Kop at it's swaying, surging peak was the greatest ever sight of any football stadium in the world. Thanks for the upload.

elland1979 Thanks for your kind comments mate. I agree with you about seventies footy....I was actually going to re upload this video cos I have found a couple of new games. That Leeds team was also very special and the whole period in my opinion was footy at its finest.

***** I look forward to seeing any new material you've found. I was also surprised to read that the Paisley era has been a bit neglected by Liverpool.
@wolves76559 жыл бұрын
elland1979 Its not so much that they have neglected the era but more that they tend to rely on the classic old games that even most older non Liverpool fans know of. St Etienne and the Spurs 7 0 as an example....its the same with your team and the classic era under Don Revie; Southampton 7 0, Manchester United 5 1, great performances but how many more games have not been highlighted or shown in released videos/dvds in the subsequent decades...I would guess a fair amount and its certainly the case with Liverpool. The media, and the clubs themselves are inherently lazy and unimaginative with what they release to the public. I just felt that Paisleys era deserved as best as I could manage a season style review type that are the norm these days.......keep an eye out for part two of 77/78...hopefully being uploaded tonight...it was copyrighted by UEFA but I have removed the Kenny Dalglish goal against Bruges and hopefully it is now ok. Thanks for your appreciation of the vids! Best wishes from Matt
@UpTheJunction799 жыл бұрын
***** Couldn't agree more Matt about the kind of stuff released. I bought most club videos released in the 80s and it was mainly the same old games. A few different games were shown on ESPN a couple of years ago (Liverpool 3-0 Villa 1976 one of my favourites) but if only video recorders had been widely available from the early seventies! I'd been after the Leeds v Man City FA Cup game in 1977 for ages (the brilliant Corrigan save match) then a dvd was released with various Leeds cup games on including this one. At last I thought. When I shoved it on John Motson's original commentary had been re-recorded over by Peter Brackley! I asked Motson about this when I met him a couple of years ago and all he said was 'I expect he did a better job at it than me....'It's a scandal & a disgrace that great footage is allowed to sit on a dusty shelf somewhere where genuine footy fans of the 70s can't have access to it. Anyway rant over...for now! Cheers, Neil
@wolves76559 жыл бұрын
elland1979 That is because the cost of using BBC archive footage is crazily high and it saves a lot of money if they use added on commentary instead of the original commentary. It is stupid and you are 100 per cent correct....gathering dust in the archives helps no one. John Helm doing the added on commentary for the 74 World Cup Final instead of the imperious David Coleman was especially ridiculous. I agree with you also about the vcr frustration and lack of games shown back in the day....but it does at least have the consolation of finding the odd hidden gem and maybe a game I have not seen for years. Best wishes pal.
