The Mexican Fairmont's available 302 V8 engine option is unique in that the US Fairmonts in 1980 and 1981 came with an available Windsor 255 V8 as the top engine. The 302 was available in US Fairmonts only in 1978 and 1979.

Also it is a Mexican 302 which is known to be a stronger block so it can be built for more power.

1981 worst yr for American cars? I would say it started in 1981 and ran for a few yrs (rebounding in 86 and 87). Now I would say we can say decades instead of yrs for poor quality American made cars since the 2010's 😲

Yes but it started in 1981. They had big engines but only put out 150 HP. That was because of the smog equipment the car companies didn't know how to make.

That is one sweet looking Dart. The color sets it off great. We only got the 225 in the Valiants down here too, which is odd, as the cars it was built to compete with, only had a 138 (Holden) and 144/170 (Falcon) initially.

Nice 57, but, in this country at least, this is a Custom 300, not a Fairlane. In 57 and 58, there were two different Fords, the Custom and Custom 300 on a 116 inch wheelbase and conventional sedan style doors, and the Fairlane and Fairlane 500 on a 118 inch wheelbase, all using convertible style doors with separate uppers to adapt them to steel-roof cars.

Heavy duty front and rear brakes. Front and rear anti-roll bars. Goodyear Eagle GT tires, stock. Heavy duty padded seats front and rear. Separate coolers for the transmission AND the power steering unit. Skid pan under the engine. Upgraded alternator. and much more. I had it for 15 years. I also added a strut cross brace...and Koni shocks and struts. Yes, Konis on a K-car.
