The top thread tension assembly has a hook spring in it that takes up the slack in the thread when the arm goes down. In this video, the thread doesn't seem to have been caught by the spring. Whenever the arm goes down, there is a big loose loop of thread that shouldn't be there.

When sewing sheer fabric, use a feeder fabric to get your seem started. Cut out a 3" piece of scrap fabric and put it under the needle about 1/2 inch up and start sewing, put your sheer fabric butted up against the feeder scrap. If this is confusing just you tube how to sew sheer fabric. Saved my life hemming a brides maid dress.

Thanks for mentioning the mold and mildew remover. I did not think of that until you mentioned it and got some. It does work great. I am going to try the buffing and polishing compound you mentioned, too.

Ban metric!
@hwrdgrn6 ай бұрын
Metric is by far, the more efficient measuring system. For example, double the measurement of 2 and 7/8 inches and you will be scratching your head for a long time, whereas you can do the metric calculation very easily.

Great review sir! I've been hangin' on to my13 y/o $35 dollar brother sewing machine for years and it's been finicky from time to time. Yes, it does the job, barely and very sensitive to things like jamming and thread tightness and I've been meaning to replace it and looks like it's time to upgrade. This is a concise, straight to the point, real quick review and that's how I like it. With that being said, you earned my sub!

What about your freshwater tank and lines?
@exploringlandandsea4811 Жыл бұрын
We never used the fresh water, but just dump the same anti freeze in your fresh water tank, turn on your water pump and run hot and cold water till it runs pink. the big thing here is you need to close the access to the hot water heater and drain the water from it. Anti freeze can ruin it. Hope that helps.

Great demo! As another has observed, this Singer has a reputation for having a foot pedal that is impossible to control. But seeing you operate it at a steady speed makes me consider it for my next purchase. I adore sewing slowly and mindfully. And this model is such a great value for the money, I'm happy that it may be adequate for the "speed control freak" in me! Thanks again for the video, very helpful.

Is there any way to reduce the speed/power As a beginner mine feels like riding a mechanical bull😂😂
@exploringlandandsea4811 Жыл бұрын
Haha, that is how I felt as well when starting out. Believe me when I tell you that you will get used to it and it will become second nature. Saddly the "gas peddle" if you will is the weak spot in this machine. you can replace it for a better one, but instead of spending more money, try this first; as you are gently starting to push down on the peddle you will hear the machine motor start to hum. very gently you can help it along by slowly spending the wheel on the left side of the machine. Give that a shot and see if it works for you. The only other thing I would recommend doing is unplugging the peddle and just work it for a few minutes. I did this and I think it helped a bit. Good luck and just know most of us sew at a very slow speed. You willl find your rhythm.

Love the video! Especially the beginning with the marking of angles on the cushion corners. This may be random, but I highly suggest good ventilation when using any type of heat/ hot knife on textiles. Put a fan in the window exhausting to outside. I am not kidding. Many harmful chemicals are emitted when you do this. Wearing a respiratory mask is a good practice as well. I know it seems dramatic, but I highly recommend it. I briefly worked in a canvas shop, and multiple employees who had a lot of time in, came down with cancer and other health issues.

Thank you so much for that advice. While doing boat repairs I wear all the PPE, but never thought about it when it came to cutting with the hot knife. Great advice!!!

Hi Dan, thanks for this inspiring Video. I am about to buy a 16 dated from 1986 and I will have 2 or 3 things to do on the hull. Is there a way to contact you to get your advises ?
@exploringlandandsea48112 жыл бұрын
Please feel free to contact me. There are some very important things to look out for on these boats, some are not worth repairing. Probably the best way would be through the comments. The biggest thing to watch for are soft spots in the hulls. If there are soft spots it might not be worth fixing.
@gillesgardy89572 жыл бұрын
@@exploringlandandsea4811 Thanks Dan. No soft spot. I have 2 small impacts to fix in one hull and another , more important behind the ruder. Would it be possible to send you a photo ?

Yes please do. Let me know if for some reason you cannot attach them in the comments. From the sounds of it the impact near the rudder is the one of real concern.

In most shots we are using a GoPro hero 7 Black. I shoot everything in 4K and then can dumb it down if I need. 4K gives you a lot more editing options. We also have a Nikon Z5, it is not the best at moving videos, but great for things like interviews. I hope this helps.
