Hey Steve-I made two cruises on the Hancock (1972-1973) and was also assigned to VA-55, stationed at NAS Lemoore. I was a plane captain, fuel farms, AIMD etc. Overall enjoyed my navy days. Got out after four years, used my GI bill and became a psychotherapist. God bless all who served in all capacities, branches, and all who continue to serve. Take care, all!

I (Bobby Estey) was on CV64 (77-81) our Air Wing was NG (CVW-9) - Squadrons - VA-146 WOW!!! DIDN'T realize they moved from A4 to A7 - VA-146 on Connie were A-7's VA-165 Boomers were the A6 Squadron and I remember AD2 ROY KHENE such a great guy. Yes, VA-147 the Argonauts were on board. My Best Friend from HS was VA-97 Warhawks, would of been great if he was on Connie at the time, but different Wing NK :-( RVAH-11 Checkers look suspicious - to the new Squadron VF-211? Yes, VFP-63 was the F8 Squadron, I think they were the Squadron for everything PACIFIC, seriously.

Ot sure why the photo says "CVW - 21???? I was a plane captain with VF-51 from August 1965 through October 1967 and did 3 tours aboard the Hancock. We worked many 1i hour days during the flight ops over Vietnam, la7mching planes and unloading tons of ordinance from supply ships. We had several pilots shot down., commander Nederland, lieutenant Skaggs and lieutenant commander Ron Dodge. Ron Dodge became a prisoner of war and althoug being seen in Vietcong propaganda videos was never acknowledged by them. However his remains were eventually returned years after the war ended I understand. The most sickening feeling for a plane captain was to launch a pilot and waiting for his return on deck which didn't happen. God bless America and never forget those who have their lives for us.

Hey Gday guys I live in Australia and the USS Coral Sea must of Docked in perhaps Fremantle Harbour back in the day. My Mother in-law RIP was one of many ladies who liked to date the US 🇺🇸 marines and their Salors. As she has a Zippo lighter and a pick of the Aircraft Carrier. It’s a beautiful lighter and no doubt was a token reminder of a good old fashioned night out. Bless her bless The USS CORAL SEA 43 ❤️❤️ Any survivors who no longer have their Zippo lighter I’d be proud to send the lighter home. ❤️🇺🇸🇦🇺👍

Ronnnie and the "snipes" were the unsung heros on all these cruises. The chonic low wind environment in the Tonkin Gulf required a lot of high speed (22kts +} steaming to launch heavy jets put a considerable strain on the engineering plant and the black gang. Always had enough steam to launch my RF-8. (and I don't remember ever being on water hours on any of my 3 deployments).

I made the final two cruises of the USS Hancock, 1973 and 1975. I was an Aviation Storekeeper with VA-55, an A-4 squadron stationed at NAS Lemoore, CA. I'm grateful for the many sailors who served on Hancock over the years, some giving their lives in the cause of freedom. God bless America and God bless the United States Navy. Smooth sailing to you all!

I deployed on CVA-64 USS Constellation with Heavy Attack Squadron 10 an A-3 squadron, AKA The Vikings, and we were on her from May of 1964 through February of "65. Also deployed with us was an F-8 Crusaders, 2 F-4 Squadrons 142 and 143, 2 A-4 Squadrons 144 and 146 and an AD1 Squadron 145. I believe 2 Willi Fuds but it may only have been 1 I forget and a couple of Helicopters for plane guards. After the first time we were off Vietnam and returned to the states some of the aircraft changed I'm sure but this was the first trip and the first loses in the first attack, August 5 , 1964 came from VA-145 and VA-146
