As a scientist, I can appreciate the desire to jump right in and immediately tell people about how important this issue is. But the advice to listen first is important. Finding out where people are coming from and what they care about makes it much easier to have a real conversation about the problem.

Great advice! In my experience, most people who think climate change is a hoax are just scared because the media over dramatizes everything, so people feel like they have no control which leads them to ignoring or brushing off the problem. (Side note, we're all a little scared). What's really important is to find a middle ground that everyone can agree with. And that middle ground is pollution. Everyone has had some personal experience with pollution like stinky smoggy air, dirty drinking water, toxic soil, pesticide laden food, or too much trash etc. And the crux of climate change is pollution. There ya go. Middle ground. Since no one can say they don't want to breathe cleaner air (cleaner air means less asthma, less lung cancer, less sinus problems etc,), if we all do our part to try and clean the pollution in our towns and cities, then the scary effects of climate change will slow or disappear. Less scary. More manageable.

This should not be a secret. Listening to others is so important, yet hard to do. We all need to listen to others to find common ground or to engage in a conversation on climate and environmental sustainability.

It's not so much a problem to talk about it....if it's a monologue. Thanks for the reminder that "talking about," if it includes other people, is a dialogue and a critical part of that dialogue is listening.

I've found these things from the video to be hard, but I know they're important: building rapport through open-ended questions, truly listening to the perspective of others, and reflecting their feelings before sharing my own. Trust and open dialogue are essential for creating lasting change!

Sweetheart where do think the gas and oil that run your car come from? What do you think fueled the vehicles and machines that built your home? What do you think the plastic on your camera or phone is made from?

Most put together idea I’ve heard. Lemme ask… once you bill oil companies for $75B, who are they gonna up-charge to make that money back? I like the current gas prices without anymore externalities, thank you.

Amazing idea. There needs to be a plan to then bankrupt the polluting companies so they can be absorbed by the government so we can make our fuel sources regulated as a part of our country's infrastructure. That would ensure prices staying low and finally make a difference with the pollution levels

So I guess it was better when society used wood or coal cook stoves or for heat then natural gas. And oil or Kerosene lamps. That's what the majority of society used in the 50's. Natural gas was a huge improvement back then when most rural and even cities had very little electricity. Society is full of idiots.

Most heat pumps do burn fossil fuels. Most of the electricity used to power them is generated by burning fossil fuels.
