Tom, great work! Can you please tell where to buy a loon study cast like you have? I'm just beginning this wood carving journey as my retirement gets closer, and I have a lot questions to ask. Thank you kindly!

Jaymes Company is a good source for wood carving supplies like study bills. jaymescompany.com/

Love your channel. It would be awesome if you did a series on a hen goldeneye. Every decoy brand all mostly have only drakes and I’d love to add hens in my spread by carving and painting my own hen goldeneyes.

Awesome advise and tips .Thanks so much. Hey how did you cardinal decoy work out? Just a little curious.
@tomchristieart4 күн бұрын
Thanks Lewis! No joy on the bird feeder yet. I had one wood pecker come in to take a look while I was having coffee. We have another feeder in the back yard and have had only one Bluejay visit that one so far. No Cardinals yet. We need some snow to make the food sources more scarce. Not giving up! 😆🤞

It would be helpful to know what colors you’re using and what paint. Especially the iridescent head. I’m painting a duck statue right now. Thanks.
@tomchristieart5 күн бұрын
Here is a quick recap. I didn’t list the base coat Jo Sonja (paint brand) Phthalo Green darkened with Carbon Black. The iridescent paints are Chroma brand, which have been discontinued since I made that video. I now use Createx Pearlized Air Brush paint for iridescence. Here is a link to a video from my channel that cross references Chroma and Createx. Hope this helps and good luck on your project! kzbin.info/www/bejne/raLWgWCQl5mgpKM

Still following the painting video which is super! Now I have an airbrush! When you refer to "interference" I cant find that term used on Createx, just pearlized and flourescent. Thanks Tom!
@tomchristieart15 күн бұрын
Hi Clint. Yes, that term is only used on Chroma paint. Createx “Pearlized” is their version of an iridescent paint.

Me too Clint! The Createx Pearlized colors run lighter and brighter than Chroma so add some Jo Sonja colors to darken and soften the pearl a bit.

This is a very nice carving, but lets be honest its no way a gunning decoy. Way too much time and detail for a hunting decoy
