Hi 👋🏻 Your adorable fur babies got me to subscribe 😊 I just found you nice to meet you. I cam suggest getting a waggle. This will actually give you all the pet /temp info on your phone. You can set up a simple pet cam also which let's you see them in the van as well as hear them and even talk to them while you are on a hike or in an eatery. Etc. Security is important for many reasons but if all were in place and someone approached your van you would have been alerted and can actually talk to them from wherever you are so they ha e no way to know if you are inside the van or not. Cute pups and now I will be binge watching to catch up wuth your channel. 😊
@goslowdownnowКүн бұрын
Welcome and thanks for watching! Also, thanks for the suggestions…we have a temp stick and a camera but this waggle thing you mentioned sounds even better 😄
@mikel.58502 күн бұрын
You can also put a pet sensor in your vehicle that will notify you if the air conditioner turns off and the temperature changes in a vehicle it will go right to your smart phone and notify you if the police called you have a device to show them that you are actually monitoring your pet
@goslowdownnow2 күн бұрын
We have one. We have a temp stick where we can monitor temp and it alerts us. We usually only use it when it’s actually hot out but it was 75 outside and 79 in the van, so we didn’t have it on.

I understand completely. I've become a full time van lifer, with my dog. He's 13 years old, been with me since he was 9 weeks. His peroblem is he has serious separation anxiety, especially since my son moved out of the house this spring. I find I have to constantly explain that because he's so anxious, he'll bark as soon as I leave the van. And pant, if it's 20 degrees, he'll be panting. I'm just trying to give him the best last years of his life. If I could change the way he is I would, but that's not going to happen.
@goslowdownnow4 күн бұрын
Yeah, the separation anxiety for dogs is so real! We got them during Covid and I was with them for 2 years in the house. It started as soon as I went back to work. Now that we are on the road, they love it! We honestly don’t leave them alone much or for too long. And I’m sure your pup is living his best life!
@ablokeandablue31256 күн бұрын
Totally get it. Something similar happened to me at a Walmart. I left Finley in the car with windows mostly open and parked in the shade while I popped in to get a few things when I returned. There were four Walmart employees around my car and Finley going berserk inside. Luckily they didn’t try to put their hands inside the car, that would’ve been ugly.
@goslowdownnow4 күн бұрын
Finley was just doing his job protecting his territory! I get why people might be concerned but it’s like use your discernment. If it’s not hot then they are ok! They are just barking at you 😂

There’s always one …sorry it ruined your day. I have my 2 barking chiweenies in my van home always. It’s 80 sq ft of bougie upscale kennel. I’m waiting for the day some nutcase tries to call authorities or smashes my windows. The van is our home, it’s always climate controlled and they are never ever under heat stress nor in danger, these Karen types make me cringe. My pups are better cared for than 99% of other dogs, and the chihuahua in them… it’s bark bark bark if someone is going to stand around outside peering in … gahhhh. I would not have kept my cool. Good job 😅
@goslowdownnow6 күн бұрын
Sooo annoying! I’m so glad you get it! We have a little sign in the window that says they are temp controlled but apparently that’s not enough 😒
@kimdagnillo82463 күн бұрын
Me either, she would have got the fuck off in the first 30 seconds if I could wait that long. I have zero patience for stupid Karens. I took my dog with me to the store at 8:30 am , it was 60 degrees, she always has water, the windows are down a few inches, I came back to a receipt on my windshield saying it was cruel to keep a dog in a hot car ! 60 fucking degrees out in the morning ! I wish I would have seen the asshole who left it. Animals are my people, humans suck.

I have a post-it note I keep near my dash; I put it up in the window if I have to leave Mack in the car (with the AC on via remote start, of course!). It says "I'm OK! The AC is on!" One time, Mike finished up in the rest stop while I was walking Mack around, so we didn't have to leave Mack alone in the car at all, but I came out of the rest stop to my car with the post it still hanging up... Given Mike was easier to spot, the note made it seem like it was about him! Oh I laughed so hard until I could get the words out to share with him.

I can't get my head around this. Where you are is hot; seeing you both in casual , weather-appropriate, clothing just knocks me out. I'm in Edinburgh. The weather since last August to now has been autumnal weather. Dark; vert grey; frustratingly wet. 5:10 seconds ago I wasn't jealous. I am now.

Hey Alicia and Rachel!! I enjoyed meeting you both at the Sisters shindig and look forward to when we next cross paths. This video really struck a cord with me. I always considered myself an extrovert, belonged to clubs and teams and generally fit in. However only later in life did I acknowledge that I was really an extroverted introvert. Through counseling I found it easier to discover my true self and that led to going solo (with Finley of course) on the road. I count the last 2.5 years as the happiest of my life 😊. Safe travels, Allan❤

I appreciate the insights you've shared here and can really empathize. For me, many friendships started to "lapse" (for lack of a better term) when my friends started getting married and having kids. I guess in a lot of ways we just didn't have as much in common anymore. I've always been an introvert at heart, but can be extroverted on an as-needed basis. That said, I'm getting on the road full-time soon and the idea of making friends has been weighing on me. Just a few days ago, I uploaded my first vanlife video - well, really just an introduction of myself, the van, and the plan - but the postive support from the nomadic community here has given me a jolt of confidence that I actually can do this YT thing, make friends along the way, and live my best life. I put that video off for weeks for many of the same reasons Alicia mentioned at the top of your video, so this was really timely for me. Thanks for sharing!
