When Billy raced for ipswich witches he lived in my road in hadleigh suffolk. I had a very uncomfortable ride on the fuel tank of his bike at the local sand pits where he would test his bikes. I remdmber being quite star struck but was put at ease by his freindly manner.RIP Billy.

Met lee twice at arena essex. What a lovely charming guy no ego so down to earth. Such a loss to speedway more importantly to his family. Was so likeable lad. Rip lee

Thank you so much for this forgot all about this. Amazing the concept reminds me of the last meeting of the season at hackney in the 70s. The champions chase was unbelievable think 36 riders ??? Plus I was young enough to get a bar of rock !!

England let the refs get in their head, and acted like Pre-madonnas, especially Lee. The 80s were the best time to be a USA Speedway fan.

Great meeting thanks for the upload. I would like to say I have picked up susie Perry twice in my cab. She is absolutely stunning. But so friendly down to earth and knows what she is talking about Speedway. What a lovely lady stunning but not pretentious. Amazing regular lady.

All the tracks lost over the years, including Jerilderie. It is an absolute tragedy what has happened to Australian speedway (solos).

Unfortunately British Speedway appears to be going the same way
@johnturner10735 ай бұрын
@@sunshinespeedway5645 For sure, as I know only too well. I'm in the UK. I had one chance to see racing at Jerilderie, in 1981 when I had the trip of a lifetime, a two-month speedway tour of Australia. The North Zone final of the Australian championship was rained off on a Saturday when I was in town. I then travelled up to Brisbane, as pre-planned, then back down to Newcastle for the second attempt the following Wednesday - only for it to be rained off again! The meeting was then held in Brisbane the following night, while I was still in Newcastle! At least I got to see the track, if no actual racing. I give the UK a few years at best, won't be much left by the time it celebrates its 100 years in 2028.

Phil Collins very underrated I know he had the Collins curse could. Not gate. But he gave it everything. Think a bit like Chris Morton maybe should have moved around etc. but I can understand they are comfortable and family etc. more importantly happy.

Brilliant video, thanks for posting. What a team the Heathens had 😮
@robertmarsh35889 ай бұрын
Lovely to see this old video but I always hated watching teams with riders missing especially with no facility to cover it. Nevertheless Ipswich were pretty abysmal given the quality of some of the riders in their team; having a full complement wouldn't really have changed that.

Great meeting. I remember watching this on TV. Sadly own club Swindon finished bottom of the league that year. All memories as neither Cradley or Coventry or indeed Swindon are running at the moment due to losing their home tracks.
