Hi there! I want to convert my Mazda5 into a no-build mini camper for an upcoming road trip. I would like to remove just the bottom part of one of the middle row seats (the part that flips up) to free up that valuable space. Do you think it can be done? I searched but only found videos on how to remove the entire seat. I want to keep the rest of the seat intact so it will still fold flat and serve as my bed frame without having to build anything. Thanks!!
@itsaguntherthing92853 ай бұрын
Hey! So after going through all the trouble of building the bed platform, I did some research and found out that if you remove the headrest, the seat folds down completely flat. No need to remove the seat at all. If I understand correctly though, you want just the part you sit on removed, I haven’t looked closely enough to see if that can be done while keeping the functionality of the back rest. I would assume you need the seat to hold the backrest in place. Removing the seats is super easy, all you would need to do is put some plywood down and 2 legs maybe 3 and you have a flat surface with storage underneath. No need to build a big bed like I did. Let me know if this helps. If not keep asking questions I’ll try to help! Good luck!!

@@itsaguntherthing9285 Thanks for replying! Correct, I don't really want to remove the entire seat because I like the way it folds down flat. But the part that flips up is taking up space on the floor that I would like to use for a cooler. Were they easy to reinstall after your trip?

My mazda5 camper didn't even last one day. It was hit by tractor trailer. It took it like a champ. I spun around from one side of interstate to another. I was going to camp at Arrowhead Park in Georgia. They have mountain biking, pickleball and frisbee golf. I'm ok but van is totaled.

one of the most touching videos ive seen on here hands down. i dont get the stigma behind men showing emotion. idk how anyone could hold it together after reading such words from their daughter. what an amazing fathers day gift. and of course, we already knew the answer before it was even asked in the video. is it just my imagination, or do my eyes play tricks on me? if i didnt know better id say theres even some facial resemblance. or is it just that they have the same heart?

Way too heavy - 2x^'s are severe OVERKILL. Check out Torsion Box Construction. Also, why carry 'round the third row seats? They 1) add weight, and 2) consume precious cargo/storage space. HINGES: They are installed improperly. the rectangular end could be MORTISED into the edge of the two by six such that the long leaf would sit flush with the top edge(s) of your framework with the plywood flush with the hinge. if you glue your strips in line with the hinges, you should be able to screw into the doubled up are to secure the hinges. You could also add HFT Super Glue Gel to the hinge leaf and then screw them tight. Then, your 'cover' opens 'like a book.'
@itsaguntherthing92853 жыл бұрын
Live and learn right? Next time I know to use lighter wood and learn how to properly install hinges. Haha I kinda went by the seat of my pants, and apparently it’s obvious 😂 thanks for the tips! I left the 3rd row seats in because I only leave the bed in during summer. If I was doing a permanent bed, I would have striped the whole back, insulated, etc. I hope your having a wonderful day!
@Meldium3 жыл бұрын
Way too harsh on a temporary build. Yes the wood is way overkill to only support her weight but the way you wrote her all this, was kind of in a rude fashion. Your comment is more of a direct order and demanding critique rather than a suggestion approach. She just showed what she did for her weekend outdoor camping adventures not to show us how to do a permanent build. She had fun and showed us that it's doable even in the Mini Minivan. Support her rather than preach her. Because this is what is clearly noticed with your comment.
