why are td-licence-owners no longer able to download experimental versions? ive been a td user since 2013, but lately i got the feelings that there's a 'TD-elite' keeping all the good stuff in a closed group... maybe its time time to find alternatives for td?

There is currently no experimental version available, that's the only reason. This years R&D has some big feature reworks that have taken longer than than we wished to get into a state they are good enough for an experimental. Stay tuned, we hope to have a 2025 experimental ready in the first quarter of this year.

@@TouchDesignerOfficial Then why is it that SOME td artist DO seem to have access to the newest stuff? I really liked how it used to be: release experimentals frequently and have the community try it out and give feedback. I think it's not fair towards other paying customers to have a situation where a 'select group' has access to new features, and others do not. if you trying to make a living using the software, it's not cool to compete with others who had the opportunity to familiarize themself with these new tools..

@@pantov If you are referring to POPs private alpha test, anyone one can request to join that group. Its the first time we've done such an alpha test because these features really are unstable and wildly changing as things are so early in development. Features are being test run and then sometimes removed completely or redesigned, it is not ready for a full public release. As such we are staging it in groups as we are working directly with all testers involved, feedback is required and expected from each tester. If you have the time to join the test group you can ask for access by contacting us at support. There is no gate keeping, we only have so many slots for each test and with each new round we add another group of testers.

@@TouchDesignerOfficial What is the advantage of having a 'private test group' over releasing public beta's. Everyone knows the experimental builds are unstable, but we love to try it out for ourselves, instead of watching one of those 'TD Elites' doing a demonstration on YT. The experimental builds worked well in the past no? I think it's a mayor mistake to create a private group while you have a massive online community that loves to help you improve your software.. I fail to understand how you are not seeing that this kind of behaviour erodes a good community..

You probably want to start exploring noise functions, discussed later in this video. That specific thumbnail may be noise or noise and some feedback or fluid sim.

Thanks you. I still have a question : what if your LED strips exceed 170 leds, meaning one DMX universe will not be sufficient enough ? Do anyone have resources on the subject, or know if it is even possible to split informations into multiple universe and still get to share it to an led strip ?

Yes, you'll need to split it across multiple universes. There are some discussions in the forum, if they don't help recommend asking there as you'll probably want explicit details or even example networks which aren't easy to share here. forum.derivative.ca

Made it to the end! Fun project to make and play around with in the end. It's also a fun challenge to follow along and learn GLSL while the new version of TouchDesigner has a similar yet slightly different syntax so it's very rewarding to get your code working correctly. I had to look up the ArcBallCamera in the documentation and found out that cameraViewport is a replacement of the arcBallCamera COMP in the palette. Hopefully that helps the next person because I used the Camera COMP to follow along in the meantime. The cameraViewport is so much better because "its viewer is a rendered image using a Render TOP (versus the built-in 3D camera viewer)". You'll see the difference immediately when you put it next to a camera. Thanks TD team!🙂

I finally made it to the end of the video!!! It took me days but taking notes and following along really helped as someone who just downloaded TouchDesigner. Very glad you went over projection mapping during this as well I was able to map out a space on the wall between my posters using kantanMapper and show it off to my friends. Loving the journey so far and excited to see where it can go!
