SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP. I'm absolutely new to this and trying to follow these steps. As soon as I hit "Create Clipping Mask" (timestamp: 06:02), whole image becomes invisible. I tried everything I could; changed arrangement (back/front), changed fill color of polygons and their strokes to transparent, etc. Even the groups and order of layers are the same as in this video but image just disappears every time I hit that command. Been trying to figure it out for the last 3 hours and I'm gonna go nuts!

first you have to put all the hexagon in one file and then you have to put the image just above that hexagon file.. only after clicke on cliping mask

He created a copy of the hexagon shapes and then turned off the fill and he enabled the stoke in the copied hexagon

This was not useful at all. A tutorial should tell you what you are doing and why. Not just show a person clicking buttons making something I do not need to learn how to make. So after 17 minutes I could mimic your graphic but have no idea why I needed to do certain things or avoid others to create what I am hoping to? Hmmm. Yeah, not in the least bit useful.
