I was born in Skibbereen played "pitch an toss ' in the Fair-Field on Sunday after Mass. I was a Skibb. altar-boy and on some Sundays served on Bishop's Mass In St Patharic's Catheridral . The Bishop's name was Dr. Moynihan "Bishop of Ross" A very confusing name indeed for me just a 13 year Skibb. boy. I swam in the Ilen-River beneath the Iron Bridge (by the West Cork Hotel). But avoided the Swans as they would bite if U came too close to them. And definitely avoided "Skibb. fat brown cigars" floating on Ilen H₂O. . In my days Skibb Homo Sapein's human waste went in the Ilen Riven And out-going Ilen river tide carried that precious Irish load down to Baltimore and into the Irish sea. The red monstrosity Arts building recently built in Skibb. near where I was born. Is nothing short of an architectural insult to Skibb. It should be demolished "No Ifs or Buts" Replace its ground space, with a classic Irish poverty relaxing sports venue of the 30/ 40's Example a "hand -ball" alley, or a " pitch and toss venue. Use only shillings or sixpence's I went to St. Factna's Del La Salle, Yet the Skibb. people allowed DLS to be sold to a business Corporation a AI phone company Yet Skibb. people allowed an Arts Building to be erected. Why we ask ? For snobbery. Spearline trying to be a world A1 service software phone company Good Luck.

My dream is to go to Skibbereen where my grandparents lived and came to Boston in 1848. My mum said they would never speak of the horrors they suffered.

I just came to check out the video because I did my family tree on ancestry and many of my ancestors are from this town. I wonder if there’s anymore Collins’ left in the town. If so there may be a chance I could be related
@TheNikkit693 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment. If you were to dig a bit further I think you would find that there are plenty of Collins in Skibb, and all over West Cork it is a very common name in these parts.

Thanks. I'm a close collateral descendant relative of the O'Donovan Rossa. Those readers who know Skibbereen understand my meaning. Others of my MacCarthy and O'Donovan ancestors were from Skibbereen before moving to Cork City, as far I as can tell from oral family history. Of course, the area was part of the MacCarthy kingdom of Desmond. I found this very interesting as I haven't yet had a chance to visit from Los Angeles. I did discover your whiskey here in LA. Thanks.

Thank you Nikki, great pictures of Skibbereen. thank you 🙏 for sharing. I only found out about this place because of Sinead O’Conner’s song Sibbereen and a book I recently read. 🙏👍🏼❤️🤗
@TheNikkit694 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much I am glad you enjoyed it, although Sinead O'Conner was only doing a cover version as it is an Irish folk song from the 1880's I believe. A haunting song though through the eyes of a father and son. I hope you get to visit one day, and West Cork and Ireland as a whole a wonderful place.

TheNikkit69 we were in Ireland last year 2018 for four weeks and fell in love with the country, the people and it’s sad history. We look forward to returning to Ireland and Skinnereen is on the list. I have just joined your channel.

Hi , my great ,great grandmother was born in st Patrick's skibereen in 1861 , so im trying to find out some history of the family & weather there are any family members still around
@TheNikkit696 жыл бұрын
Hi Derek, The best place I can guide you too would be the Skibbereen Heritage centre, they have their own website, other than that I don't have anything that could help you, You say St Patrick's but this is a cathedral in the town, unsure if this would be the correct location, perhaps baptised there? Family history is collated in the Heritage centre, so the best place to start. I hope this helps.
