Yes I believe you have to be at least a meter or 2 away. This is because it is not intended to kill you too. It will say in the item description what the arming distance is.

@@oalip3680 I’m from America and when the My servers are too busy I can play Europe no problem. That being said there are plenty of servers Asia, south east Asia and Russia so you should be fine
