These Bruneau-Jarbridge and Owyhee canyons always intrigue me. Just took a spectacular canyon drive up the Owyhee River to Owyhee Lake to see the ring gate (hole of death) flowing since I'm only an hour away in Idaho. Driving that canyon and the contrasts of all the colors, it makes you wonder why the Grand Canyon gets so much more recognition. I'll take the Bruneau-Owyhee Canyonlands and Hell's Canyon any day over the Grand Canyon.

Thanks for posting this. Ran this about 35 years ago in a kayak at some level around 3200 cfs. 5 Mile was very intimidating. We came to a river wide standing wave that blocked our view down stream. Eddied out but couldn't get out to scout because the bank was too steep and the eddy was surging up and down about 10". Finally just went for it, down through a millrace through landmine holes everywhere. What amazes me about watching your video is how much slack water there is..... I don't remember that!

Hey Nick! This is awesome! I’m planning on doing this same trip in December. Do you have more info on side trips, stuff to watch out for etc? Can we get in contact via email or something? Thanks

Nice line! I guide that segment ALOT, I dont think its truly class IV below 3000cfs. The American Whitewater write up on it cracks me up. " Pinball is class IV if you have four complete idiots in a non self bailing paddle raft" lol.

Thanks for posting Nick! You were rowing a Global Grand Canyons 5.0m (16.4') cataraft. The water level was ~25% of normal - the lowest ever recorded for February. That's why the boat seemed too big on your trip. I warned you the river would be low!!

Found this while searching for gold panning the Raging. Took my 10 foot pontoon boat down that at about he same water level. Looked like you put in just above Preston, but below the I90 freeway bridge. The big pull out under the freeway can make things easy, also. Raging used to be one of he best steelhead rivers back in the 60's and 70's. Last one I caught in there was over ten years ago. Used to get them in the gorge quite a lot. Access is not too bad, but walking that west side, you have to have the water pretty low. Last winter had way too much wood to be safe, but i am not doing that again. I am way too old now. Nice vid. Good water. Glad to see I am not the only crazy person on the river.

@scotticus80
@scotticus80 9 жыл бұрын
looks like class III to me. Class IV is more like North Fork of the Payette at 400 to 700 cfs, Black Canyon of the Bear, or the biggest Middle Fork of the Salmon rapids at high water and the biggest rapids in the Grand Canyon at medium flows.
