Virta has been a fantastic experience. I have lost over 70 pounds in 146 days. The coaching is questionable though. Hard to get a straight answer and I no longer use that feature though I feel I should. At least I have become healthier and has helped me recover from a serious accident at work.

Increasing sodium on a ketogenic diet made my blood pressure go up UNLESS I also increased potassium. I finally had to resort to a blend of a sodium chloride based salt and potassium chloride. For me 50:50 by weight works perfectly.

I'm sorry, I don't speak native English and I didn't understand very well, ketone ester is an exogenous ketone, right? What type of ketone is it, I mean, does it come from a food?
@howardhill3395

A blanket recommendation to increase salt would be extreme negligence. It's very good you clearly state that this is not a blanket recommendation to increase salt on keto. I started keto and my blood pressure went up by 30 points in my 1st month. I was having too much salt with my meals. I was in a sense looking for a flavor replacement of salt in meat & vegetables instead of potato chips. I have since started to limit my sodium intake to 1500 mg/day. I never realized how quickly sodium adds up & can raise one's blood pressure a lot.

I would not assume that everyone needs a well formulated keto diet with plenty of vegetables and fiber, as if these are good things for all humans. It really looks like they are NOT, at least for not all people. Auto-immune disease sufferers tend to do very well on carnivore, eating no plants at all - and some claim to be cured (seems more like remission to me, but that's pretty darn fantastic). Fiber may actually be bad for us - you really should investigate fiber (hint, start w Dr. Paul Mason of Australia - he has great stuff on fiber). Good luck.

Great information here thank you. I tried my first low carb diet in 1988 which was the "Scarsdale method" and it was strictly low carb, basically the intake was proteins and vegetables. It was quite harsh but very efficient. The high fat part was not included there, and that is the only thing I´m missing in this talk? You say at one point that you will go inte the fat eating function but do not develop it as I heard. I'm specifically interested in what fats are best both from a ketogenic and a health point of view?

Here's a question I can't find any info on.... How often should a well-controlled T2D taking an SGLT2 inhibitor check key metrics, like ketones, anion gap (acidity) and insulin level?

I almost died!!! On 10/11/24 at about 4am I went via ambulance to Medical Emergency Services was immediately admitted to ICU. I am a type 2 diabetic who had diabetic keto acidosis! (And this is important because we are NOT SUPPOSED to get that!! But that is what the ER diagnosis was) But it was atypical, my sugars had been relatively low (I had finally woken up with a 108 BS according to my CGM! Yay! No dawn phenomenon!!! So later on I learned that what I had was more accurately called "Euglycemic Diabetic Ketoacidosis"). I was ON the keto/ketovour diet and was doing pretty good, but I was ALSO ON JARDIANCE (SGLT2)!!! That combination almost killed me!! I was feeling sick for a few days, and had thrown up a few nights ago. I thought I just had the “keto flu” you hear about, and so I just tried to push through it and ugh, boy did I feel yucky! Things finally came to a head when at about 3:30am in the morning as I was “trying” to sleep I started hyperventilating! It was as if I had tried to run a marathon at a sprinting speed, my lungs wanted to explode. My whole body was hurting and spasming. I was dizzy, too wobbly to walk or get out of bed. I also threw up then and it was BLACK... I remember thinking “Hmmm.. I don't recall eating anything BLACK! What the heck is THAT!?” I finally admitted I needed to go to the hospital because I was in so much PAIN. I also figured that the black vomit was not good, so yes please! Take me to the hospital! I can have my husband (a doctor) help me decipher the medical records, but my “health” markers were WAYYYYYYYY OFF! One important “buffer” needed for life was unreadable according to their machines, meaning I had NO more “buffer”. My blood acidity level was also up off the charts. So anyway first thing they did was try to ask me questions, kinda hard as I was going in and out of consciousness. I remember vaguely the ride to the hospital, being rolled out of the ambulance into a metal room (or maybe just metal doors, I don't know?”) being lifted/transferred to the hospital stretcher, then rolled into another room, then a team of about 8-10 ER staff all surrounding me. The questions were “what was that from” (from me groaning in pain) “where does it hurt” (everywhere) “can you be more specific” (ok I'll try... my back, my stomach, my legs, my feet...) “do you have pain in your chest?” (yes, but its my lungs, my lungs hurt). I guess they were trying to figure out if I was having a heart attack before they did anything else. After a few more groans in pain they said “Lets get her some morphine” and I immediately got some relief. But I was still breathing REALLY HARD, that didn't slow down until much later on. The rest of my time that next 24 hrs is kinda a blur. I was trying to sleep, but they were waking me up trying to prick my finger to see what my blood sugars were doing every hour, and they were drawing blood for labs (SO MANY LABS), and they were waking me up to see if I could do any physical therapy, and I had to ask them to please UNTIE ME from the IV's from both elbow pits & from the compression leg thingies keeping both legs down to help me get to the toilet so I could pee. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink for 24 hrs. They didn't even want me sipping on water (only allowed to chew/swallow ice chips), because THEY were giving me water via IV and they needed to know exactly how much water went into me, and then as I was peeing into this container they were measuring how much fluid was coming out of me as well. Ugh. I'm just tired again just writing/reading this all. Ok, next phase. Next day I am transferred to the regular hospital floor. They are now giving me insulin shots. But I am SO dismayed because I did not WANT insulin shots! The diabetic educator was trying to convince me I needed insulin shot prescription. I started to shut down and not share or communicate with her anymore. I was being a pain-in-the-butt because I kept insisting I did NOT want insulin shots! We were at an impasse. They were looking at me like I'm crazy. And I was just having SUCH a hard time. I do over react to stress and that can make my BS go UP like 100 points. Shots/pokes/jabs drive me crazy! I have a complete meltdown internally, meanwhile outside I'm trying to hide that. My poor sons inherited this from me. When they get labs drawn or get a shot they faint! They are fully grown men and they are fainting! One time I was trying to show my younger son how my glucose monitor worked so I pricked one of his fingers.... AND HE FAINTS! So ya, they inherited that from somewhere, and that somewhere was ME! Now I'm getting “poked” more than a hundred times a day it seems! And they have me on insulin, for the first time in my 10 years with diabetes I'm on insulin. But to tell the truth the insulin DID SAVE MY LIFE!!! AND THE GLUCOSE ALSO SAVED MY LIFE!!! How confusing is that?!? Ya! It's confusing! Anyway, I'm having a hard time because what I WANTED TO DO (do Keto, no insulin!) was not what THEY wanted me to do. I am battling the medical establishment.... AND MY HUSBAND THE DOCTOR TOO. So now it's the next day and I will be discharged from the hospital. We have a meeting with my ER doc. And he had consulted with some other hospitalists & endocrinologists. They very clearly decided that my problem was NOT the keto diet! My problem was the JARDIANCE ON the Keto diet! They released me saying “No insulin, NO JARDIANCE, no Metformin, you can do Keto” End of story!! YAY!! So now instead of spending more than $800 a month on diabetes prescriptions (no more Jardiance, no more Invocana, no more Metformin (perhaps the culprit for my black vomit?), and I'm probably going to be non-compliant and most likely WON”T start the Trulicity they want me to take.) I'll instead be spending that money on LOBSTER and eating that with BUTTER, and I'll have a side of RIB EYE to go with that!!! Cartman of South Park was correct!!! “Tell the President to have a little steak with his butter!” But in more seriousness, I love low glycemic veggies, love fish, other healthy proteins, so still incorporating the parts of Mediterranean Diet but I'm going to do it keto style. I just LITERALLY CANT have more than 20g of carbs per day, so the "red wine" sipped while eating "french bread" w cheese & "grapes"...nope! the only thing I can have from that list is the cheese. I hope I survive this new diet! Wish me luck! We will see!! So anyway I'm writing all of this with the hopes to GET THE WORD OUT!! I was looking out the window of my hospital room as we were talking with my doc (and I am wondering how many others like me were out there. Struggling. Hurting), & we were sharing that multiple ER staff persons were saying “we see this all the time” and I'm thinking “Well, that is WAY TOO MUCH then!”. And the ER doc was saying “well, its not all the time, maybe once a month...” and I'm still thinking “THIS IS STILL IS WAY TOO MANY!!” People with type 2 diabetes (or more accurately should be called "insulin resistant") are out there, and some of them are on an SGLT2 and they are getting SICK while they are trying to get healthy! AND they are also getting really SICK AND TIRED of this disease PROGRESSION!!! Do we keep going with this PROGRESSION? Do we lose our sight and go blind? Do we lose our Feet? (I've got horrible neuropathy in my feet! I'm scared!) Our legs? My thumb? (because that is constantly hurting me and is numb. Is my thumb dying and am I going to lose my thumb?) How far and how long are we going to let this disease PROGRESS?!? Can we get off the merry-go-round of... gain more weight->become insulin resistant->have higher blood sugars->take insulin shots->gain more weight-> etc and on and on. No people! NO!!! We are TRYING TO GET HEALTHY! We go to the store, we buy the GOOD stuff, we learn to cook it the right way and say “oh DANG, that is YUMMY!!!” So ya, back to my point, how many type 2 diabetics out there ON JARDIANCE (or other SGLT2's) who want to give this Keto/Carnevour thing a try? Because I tried it 3 times, 2 times I failed MISERABLY.... because I was “SICK” sick & likely about to go into DKA back then too, and I stopped it by giving up & eating CARBS (and thereby continuing on with my disease progression) not by GETTING OFF JARDIANCE!!!!! I have a HUGE question..... HOW MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUFFERED WITH KETO FLU WERE ON JARDIANCE or other SGLT2's? I would seriously LOVE to see a survey done to ask that question! I'm writing here because this IS THE TARGET AUDIENCE!! Please help me get the word out!!! GET OFF JARDIANCE or other SGLT2's if you want to STAY ON KETO/CARNEVOUR!! Medical providers DON'T KNOW! (I've heard recently of 2 cases where dr knew this person was doing serious keto, and prescribed Jardiance anyway). Patients DON'T KNOW! Why would it be dangerous if we are eating HEALTHY?!? So, we STILL need to get the word out!! Thank you for uploading this video! Thank you for reading this! Stay safe! God Bless!

Oh my Goodness I’m so glad I looked this up! I am now in the dark purple on burning ketones. I’ve been keto for 5 years, only eat clean Whole Foods and could not lose my belly fat. Started Semiglutide and jumped RIGHT into burning fat. However tonight- I tested dark purple and felt like my heart is beating hard- so I looked this up. 😮. I jumped up and ran for some peanut butter on celery and put some salt on it. I always forget salt since I don’t get it through my food. I’m feeling better, but I’m going to be more careful. This Dr scared me. Thank you for your video!!!

Yes!! So glad you looked this up! I didn't and I ended up in the HOSPITAL in ICU. I had "Euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis" they were talking about here! Read my story in the comment section here. So glad you are feeling better. Did you get OFF your semiglutide yet? Our goal is to return to normal and not need these expensive meds anymore. Regarding salt, I take LMNT electrolytes (1000mg sodium, 200mg potassium, 60mg magnesium, NO SUGAR, uses monk fruit & stevia) 1-3 times a day, and I was STILL deficient in sodium while in the hospital! The SGLT2's make us pee out sodium! I also when I was awake at 3:30am and struggling tried to eat some carbs via sourdough toast w peanut butter, but it was too late for me. I went to the hospital!

Only change in the past 6 years is the recent data that sugar alcohols may cause cancer. I have given up sucralose (!never used the other artificial sweeteners). That will make it a little harder to adhere to this diet . But it’s all about motivation and discipline, which for me comes and goes. I admire people who can maintain their discipline for long periods of time.

I started keto to lose a few pounds…about 15lb…lost it and want to stay on it because it’s so much easier than a low fat maintenance. An added bonus I wasn’t even expecting is from when I started to present which is now 5 months…I have not had one single IBS flare up. My gastro intestinal tract is so calm. I used to get at least 1 to 2 bad stomach aches and bloating a week…now it is all at peace ☺️. I don’t know what the issue was before…but it’s gone now…I eat dairy and eggs and meat with green veggies. Not a single issue.
