Excellent video I go to Cardiff Reform. I never knew there was a shul in Newport. I've been to the one in Merthyr it's a stunning building they're planning on reopening it soon, either as a museum or as a functioning synagogue I'm not sure. There was also a shul in Pontypridd not far from Cardiff but I can't find any info about it.

2:20 Some of my earliest memories were in the Anshe Shalom Synagogue, they did a Kindergarten that brought kids from the School next door (now named Cootes Paradise) in the afternoon. My parents were good friends with Celia Berlin (I think that was her name) and we lived in Hamilton until mid 1992. Wonderful people, very caring and charitable.

Your "Synagogues of Such and Such Cities/States" videos are really good, but you may want to periodically do update videos on these communities as things frequently change with shuls and the communities themselves. I have two comments/issues to bring up on this particular video. The first issue is that the membership numbers at Beth El Jacob have been decreasing steadily for quite a long period of time due to multiple factors (e.g. people dying out, a significant number of folks who grew up in Des Moines left DSM and Iowa after either high school or college). As a result of the number of members at BEJ significantly decreasing and the congregation not being able to continue paying the expensive fees involved with maintaining the building, Beth El Jacob ended up having to sell their 954 Cummins Parkway building to a Coptic Orthodox Christian church in early 2017. The remaining membership tried to survive by the Reform Temple B'nai Jeshurun offering the use of a conference room in its Office/Conference Room/Chapel wing but after several months things ended up not working out with that. Thus, since mid-2017 those who were part of Beth El Jacob that wanted Orthodox minyanim had to merge with Chabad Lubavitch of Iowa-Des Moines at 943 Cummins Parkway; thus there is now just one Orthodox synagogue in the Des Moines area and it's under the direction of the Chabad Lubavich Rabbi/Shaliakh. The only other Orthodox Jewish community of any type that now exists in Iowa is in Postville and then those Chabad houses in Iowa City and the Quad Cities. In response to what you said on "....This means that the two Orthodox houses of worship are within close proximity to each other, which also means that this neighborhood has a high percentage of Orthodox Jews...", I have to correct you because that's actually false. Des Moines does not have a "high percentage" of Orthodox Jews at all. In fact, for much of the time that Beth El Jacob was in existence (especially its last several decades), Des Moines really hasn't had a high percentage of Jews that were what's called "Shomer Shabbat" or traditionally observant from an Orthodox viewpoint even though BEJ did have a pretty significant number of members during much of its lifetime. From my experience, I believe the number of Shomer Shabbat or traditionally observant Jewish families in Des Moines (and for that matter, the number of Jewish families that lived within reasonable walking distance of either BEJ or the Chabad house) has ranged from a handful of Jewish families to at most a dozen or so Jewish families. And even when Beth El Jacob did exist as its own shul on 954 Cummins Parkway, there is a reason why the Chabad Lubavitch of DSM shul (and the Chabad rabbi family's living quarters) is just literally across the street from where BEJ used to be. When the current Chabad Lubavitch rabbi/shaliach and his family were sent here to DSM in 1992, they originally lived in one half of a pretty cramped duplex housing arrangement that was a little over one mile away from Beth El Jacob. From when BEJ started operating at 954 Cummins Parkway in 1957 up until 2006, they allowed mixed seating (men and women sitting together) during services in their main sanctuary (High Holy Days and for special occasions like Bar or Bat Mitzvahs) but for most of its existence still had men and women sitting separately with a mechitza in their smaller chapel (for the daily minyanim and on regular Shabbats where there wasn't anything special going on ). The Chabad rabbi tried to make davening with those minyanim at Beth El Jacob that were in the mechitza required chapel work, and there would be times where there would be both a mixed seating main sanctuary service and a mechitza chapel minyan took place at the same time. The Chabad rabbi and his family then relocated in 1997 to that much much larger house that's across the street from Beth El Jacob in 1997. But then in the late 1990's, BEJ's leadership decided that only one service would be allowed to take place in the building at a time; and their rabbi at that time insisted that all Shabbat and Yom Tov morning services would take place in the mixed seating main sanctuary. Because of the mixed seating in the main sanctuary, some issues with the mikvah (things Beth El Jacob allowed with their mikvah use that the Chabad rabbi and much of the Orthodox Jewish world doesn't accept), and also because of politics; the Chabad rabbi as of Fall 1998 started officially having minyanim every Shabbat and Yom Tov (and from time to time during the week too if someone requested it or if there were a large number of Orthodox Jews in town at a given time) in his home. Chabad Lubavitch of Des Moines also had a mikvah constructed and installed in the Chabad rabbi's home in 2001 that requires all mikvah usage to be done the strictly Orthodox way (e.g. not to be used for conversions to Judaism that are not Orthodox), and that's the reason why there is a separate door next to the garage door at the Chabad house as it serves as the entrance to the Chabad mikvah. In Summer 2006, Beth El Jacob completely stopped allowing mixed seating at their services, installed a pretty high mechitzah in the main sanctuary, and from that point on required men and women to sit separately at all religious services both in the main sanctuary and in the chapel for its last 10 years of existence. But anyway, that's the reason why Beth El Jacob's former building and the Chabad Lubavitch of DSM house are located across the street from each other.

we have done over 500 such type of short videos of just about every synagogue in the world. the purpose was to document at a point in time for the future the existence of these synagogues. this is done as a labor of love but not as a business or for-profit. to keep up-to-date on the dynamics of Jewish communities is a laborious task. you are welcome, of course, to consider providing this type of info on the Internet as well.

The brick road in the front is from the 1930's, when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt paid workers to build brick roads. It was an attempt to pull the U.S. out of the Depression. The neighboring town of Springfield, Illinois has a Conservative synagogue (Temple Israel) with a brick road in front of it. 1140 W Governor St, Springfield, IL 62704 I was a member of this Decatur synagogue (Temple B'nai Abraham) in the late 1970's and later in the mid 1980's....and later I moved out of state for my job. The last rabbi to serve the congregation was J. Jerome Pine. He had 25 years of service there. The congregation then hired student rabbis from Hebrew Union college to conduct major holidays. Later, there was not an availability of student rabbis because rabbinical student enrollment was down at Hebrew Union College. In 2021, the congregational building and parsonage was put up for sale. It was on the market for a little over a year, but doesn't appear to have sold. This synagogue was built in 1957. During the major holidays, in the early years, they would have separate services for the more traditional members. Before the construction and dedication of this building... the original building that was used by both Reform and Orthodox is located at 247 W Prairie Ave, Decatur, IL 62523. It had the name of Temple B'nai Abraham also. The building on Prairie is now used by Catholic Charities, but has served many other purposes (I was told a funeral home) after the congregation moved to its current location.

I’m so shocked the Russians were that considerate to Jewish people, because as my family hit from the nazis in Königsberg Ostpreußen only to have the red army start killing any German speaking person regardless if they were Jewish or not it didn’t matter, yes I liberated many Polish Polish Jews Lithuanian Lithuanian Jews when I came to the German Jews they weren’t so kind, it wasn’t for a Polish family my great grandparents employees who ran the one of the Prussian royal horse breeding farms for the king of Prussia, and still continue the tradition even after he advocated the throne the last king of Prussia, the very first king of Prussia Fedrick is one that gave my great “many greats” a ago grandmother who was Prussian-Jewish, the Royal title “von” and not her husband which was odd, she was knighted for her tremendous work developing and helping develop the Trakehner Royal Horse in Trakehnen, Our family records are destroyed by the Nazis, only the accounts of the Polish Catholics save my family were available, the Russians have rebuilt our family synagogue, however the congregation is not the same in the building is not as beautiful as it was in the pictures I have of my great grandmother, instead of being Prussian Quality it’s Russian communist crap, and it was never a conservative Judaism house of worship the congregation was more styled after Moses Mendelssohn then lightened one also known as a German Socrates who happen to be Jewish, and grandfather of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, our family synagogue the grants were given by the king of Prussia himself to build, not as grand as the new synagogue in Berlin and history is not as grand as the one in Berlin for it survived and it had people like the fire marshal would not let the Nazis burn it down, Schalom und Gut Schabbas ❤️🙏❤️ kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGapZaBpq7Wpb8k&feature=share

Honestly, be prepared to be disappointed. It's the tradition actually as Judaism doesn't seek converts. Concentrate on the 7 noahide commandments and learn what you can from orthodox rabbinic sources as to how to think as a Jew who studies Torah vs trying to be Jewish. How does a Jew convert to be Filipino 🇵🇭😲?🤣
