Good job Been there. Always easier with an other man and /or machine of course. Sprocket is badly worn, soft turns. If the tension loosens after a little work, tensioner may not be holding pressure. I’m planning on doing this same job on my ‘99 F-350 but i’m collecting all the parts slowly. My passenger side intake plenum is leaking, i have the billet aluminum plenums from riffraff diesel. But since i’m going that far into the engine i’m also replacing all the boots, the turbo pedestal with a delete pedestal, a new turbo (the factory turbo is actually small for the engine size), and any other old parts and pieces while i’m in there. I already have the bellowed up-pipes so those won’t be an issue. I’m hoping christmas brings me a bunch of the odds and ends goodies i needs to complete the job. You should put a regulated fuel return system on the heads to eliminate the “deadhead” issue, replace all 4 banjo bolts in the heads with high flow ones, and also delete the check valve fittings in the heads. These 7.3L engines love fuel but ford restricted them too much. Having those upgrades with the high pressure oil crossover really smooths out the engine as well.
@hoopiemadeАй бұрын
@@JLCmike4014 mine has the larger turbo houseing upgrade with the high flow outlet and the delete pedestal. I dident kno it had everything until i was in there to do the job. It has something on the fuel bowl from riff raff with hoses on it. Aside from puting stage 1.5 injectors in this truck 2 years ago i havent had to do anything to it other then serviceing in the 5 years ive owned it. And the only reason i replaced the injectors is because the o rings were leaking and putting the engin oil in the fuel. I figured since the truck was nearing 200k if i was going in that deep id just replace them while i was there.
@JLCmike4014Ай бұрын
@, if that riff raff thing off the fuel bowl with hoses going to where the stock fuel pressure regulator is and one hose routes to the back of the driver’s side head and the other to the front of the passenger side head then it’s the FPX so someone already put on a fuel return setup. I have that on my truck as well and it runs very smooth but swapping the banjo bolts and check valve delete fittings really smooth it out more. Eventually i’d like to get bigger injectors but i’ll wait until i have to change them. I have the hydra chip tuner, just have to install it. They make a mounting plate for the hydra that’ll put the hydra on your A-pillar gauges so hopefully that comes in for christmas. When i install my pillar gauges is when the hydra will also be installed. On the subject of your exhaust manifold leaking, most likely none of your bolts will break loose since the bolts are most likely seized into the manifold. I always end up cutting the bolts just behind the manifold (since there’s a gap between the manifold flange and the head) and using a stud puller or welding a nut onto the stud of the bolt to back out the stud. And also replace the manifold with a new OEM one while it’s apart. There is no exhaust manifold gasket from the factory but it’s best to install the gasket since there’s been 20+ years of heat cycling. Riff Raff is a god send for us 7.3L guys. They sell a ton of OEM and upgraded parts for these old girls.
@hoopiemadeАй бұрын
@JLCmike4014 i also have the hydra tuner. I like it. Its just mounted on my dash though. Only downside to the full force injectors was they only give you 5 basic tunes with them. (Stock,40hp tow,70hp eco,100hp eco, and 120hp race) they will sell you others. When i get around to the manifold i planed on replacing it. Ill more then likely only do the drivers side since the other is still good. If it aint broke i aint trying to fix it lol.
@JLCmike4014Ай бұрын
@, the driver’s side manifold is the harder of the two but it’s not horrible, not like modern trucks. I’ll probably go with rosewood or jelibuilt injectors when the time comes due to full force’s quality has unfortunately gone down substantially from what i’ve seen. The bellowed up-pipes are a vast improvement from the old style crush donut that came factory. It’d be worthwhile to upgrade to do those when you change your manifold. I went with the factory international ones and they work perfectly fine. No need for the fancy stainless ones that cost over double the price of the international bellowed ones.
@hoopiemadeАй бұрын
@JLCmike4014 it has the bellowed up pipes already and i think they are stainless cuz there no rust anywhere on them
