record companies purchase samples from eachother sometimes the studio produces the song and the artist sings the lyrics record companies own alot of the music a person hears and making albums or making songs is in some cases a committment with a certain criteria layed out by the record company and producers also alot of songwriters arent musicians or singers so in fact alot of songwriters own the rights to songs and lyrics apposes to the band and they buy sell and trade em maybe thats why

Being a performer U don't have as much time as "just a songwriter" to work on songs but U haven't written a bad one yet and what U are writing is getting better and better. I've been following you on You Tube. I wrote "Talking to the Moon" with you in mind. I love to gamble and bet on long shots. Again great song you just wrote by the way. Be proud. It's perfect for what you wrote it for or anything else for that matter.

I thought it said "nail a crucifix to a bedroom wall" And so maybe instead of " be careful where you cross son" It's " Careful, WEAR your cross, son till she comes back again" Very religious, like instead of not having a future he'll put up a cross on his wall and that'll help him. .and if he wears his cross maybe then she'll come back. Aka, desperation. Anyways, love this and every song this man does.

I think when I hear the song, it's like how the people in jazz and blues express what they've gone through and what they've tried. Here Eric Church is singing a song for everyone because we have all felt desperate somewhere in our lives, felt like we've done all we can (throw the virgin mother a prayer, strolled across the devil's hot coals, talking to a gypsy) and still there lies a rock in our way. Hope my analysis of the song helps
