Nice setup and surprised by the close up ability - do you know about how far back you had to be to get the butterfly closeups? I did not realize that the same lens' could be used on Sony FF and APS-C also - do you think there would be much difference (I am considering a new camera system, not sure which yet)
@LonerJoe_Hadley10 күн бұрын
I was about 5-6ft away. At 3:24 the purple flower lower right is where butterfly was.And the camera there. I have a Tamron 300 mm made for aps-c. It's very good for the close-up, but I wanted more reach.. One thing about full frame there better in low light. My ISO on my A6700 gets kinda high in low light, depending on the lens. I have a marumi DHd anchromatic macro 200 +5 lens that screws on to any of my Tamron lens, making them macro.

@RunNGunPhoto great to hear from you. I've used Rode mics for 17 years. The Doves are in our yard in the winter when we feed them. They moved west to the neighbor in the summer for some reason. There are about 15 acres away in the recording.

thats cool that you can record right into the phone with that mounting phone halde set up - thanks for sharing this! Question about this mic, I think its what I need - when outdoors is it picking up ambiant sound all around, or do you really need to find the birds and point it directly at them? Did you find the deadcat separately or did that also come with the kit?
@LonerJoe_HadleyАй бұрын
It's very directional. In the video when I pointed the mic at the camera I had to use audio from the camera. If the mic is pointing forward and your eyes looking forword it will pick up sound from what you see. About 180 degree. I bought the dead cat separate. It's great for reducing highway noise as well as wind. Rode makes a micro videomicro go II thats might be just as good
@BMadPhotoАй бұрын
@@LonerJoe_Hadley Thanks Joe - I didnt realize that the mic2 and micro2 was not the same thing, glad you just mentioned that or I might have gotten the micro accidentally - but I dont really need a tiny one

@BMadPhoto I found and picked up a Rode VideoMic Pro+. it has noise canceling. However, it is $299.00 Amazon, let's me make 0 interest payments so it is easier to afford
@BMadPhotoАй бұрын
@@LonerJoe_Hadley Thanks Joe - are you going to replace the go ii or does this serve a different purpose? Seems like overall its an upgrade :) Have you noticed much other difference aside from the noise cancelling? I am debating actually between these two mics and also the other rode NTG - they all seem so similar having trouble deciding
@LonerJoe_HadleyАй бұрын
@BMadPhoto The pro has a battery and better sound on camera without using the phone than the go II. I also got an adapter/hub that converts the rca style plug to usb for phone recordings. I went out to do some testing. The birds have gone to the mountains for summer. It was so quiet in the valley. Just the neighbors rooster and a distant Dove. I tried my rode USB nt+ studio mic on the phone, and it wasn't good. The pro+ has a +20 dB gain boost that can be turned on when using a wind muff.

How are you liking the Laowa? I hear good things about them. BTW - Very nice Roses! Mine are doing nowhere as well this year for the last few weeks with this heat wave in IL. I love the audio, is that the onboard mic on the Sony? Its so clear and the birds are lovely!
@LonerJoe_Hadley2 ай бұрын
I like the Laowa it's small and sharp on the crop sensor camera. I have a Sigma 105mm macro I got after the Laowa. It has auto focus I can use for focus bracketing. It's big n heavy. I usually record outdoor sound with a rode mic and rode reporter app on my phone at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning to put in my videos. This one had such good on camera sound I left it in and cut some of the trucks going by. I live by a highway. We had a lot of rain here in Oregon this spring, and the roses are better than I've ever seen. Keep in touch. I love your videos.

@@LonerJoe_Hadley Oh thanks for the compliment, and yes - I enjoy connecting with fellow macro shooters and will keep a look out for your new videos also :) I have a rode wireless go and the dji pocket mics, both of them really cancel out most noise aside from me talking - I would love to get more ambient nature sounds though. Which rode mic do you use or recommend for more ambient and bird sounds, one of their shotgun styles? (the in camera mic on my Olympus is horrible outdoors without a mic plugged in)
@LonerJoe_HadleyАй бұрын
I use a video mic go II. www.amazon.com/Rode-Camera-mount-Lightweight-Directional-Microphone/dp/B09MRLGL7G It's usb type c and plugs into my phone and the rode reporter app. It has better quality that way than plugging it into the camera. I don't know about iPhone. I took out my rode usb-nt+ yesterday. It's big and heavy. I haven't listened to it yet. I've also used Dolby On app. It saves to my phone. The rode reporter I have to email recording to myself. It saves inside the app. They both have noice canceling. They won't take a semi truck out, however. 😃

The only problem I have with it is the baseplate that attaches to the camera. It comes loose if you turn the camera while on the tripod. I have to not twist the camera, just the tripod ball head. The camera doesn't fall or anything. The screw on the base plate just loosens, and the camera is no longer stable. Other than that, the tripod is built very heavy duty and solid.
