Wait did you just switched to a new really raw version of Godot? Isn't better to stay on old version? I don't understand what was the point of moving to a new version

I've followed a similar path. I started releasing a couple of games on Steam that used Unity but it just seemed to deteriorate around 2020. I invested some time learning Rust and moved towards Bevy and find it absolutely fantastic and I can't wait for it to reach stable. Rust is also one of those languages that make you wonder how you ever coped without it. Going back to C# just feels bad now.

This video is a year old, but I wanted to say that I've been through a similar journey, though each time I left for different reasons. I've never really felt comfortable with Unity, despite having learned it many times through many different methods, whether it be classes or self-teaching. I'm not sure why, it just never clicked for me. Godot was the game engine I started properly working on my game in, where I discovered what it was going to be and its visual style,. Unfortunately, I found the C# support lacking, and GDScript as a language feels inadequate for large scale development, with much of my codebase having messy connections or fragile calls to objects that feels like I'm building my game on a tower of cards. Currently, my game is still in Godot, but I'm trying to find alternatives. In the meantime, I've been learning Rust, and loving it, having built a few utility apps and a server in Rust. My friend introduced me to Bevy, and I quickly fell in love with ECS. I've been finding Bevt difficult to get used to, with a lot of loose ends and some parts that are less intuitive, as well as feeling like I need to implement a lot of the convenience features I had in Godot myself. I haven't built anything serious in Bevy yet, as I'm still struggling with stability issues, and a lot of my game is dependent on visual feedback which needs an editor, but I do believe Bevy is the way forwards for my game once it gets an editor.

I strongly disagree that Unity forces you to write your code with inheritance. Once you know the rule "Composition > Inheritance" you just start to write Unity code differently and more composable

Great to see where the game is going! I'm curious to see what you think of the gameplay loop. Going to mine something but then having to wait every time sounds slow. Perhaps it's not so much when playing As for health, it sounds like you're on the right track. I'll suggest an healing item that can heal you over time, as a middle ground between the systems you discussed.

We all know you never check something on the game every frame, you check ONLY inputs on frame, if you want to check the game, you check on "time.fixedDeltaTime", it's something like number of frame per seconds. You use the function "fixedUpdate" instead of "Update" for all the game checks and moves. Cause this one is undependant of frame rate.

Time to give scope creep. You said in void different species etc. so it would be cool to make enemies attack each other (your blue could make like green enemies and orange etc or the different tyoes of enemies attack each other. - the colour option allows allies and all blue good) As for health. Deathlink makes it so you have armour that regenerates like a resource but health never regens which could be interesting as your never weak but you could always be 1 shot. It would be cool if after a certain chunk of health you gain an effect. All things to experiment with

@@eclipse6859 Yes I’m still using bevy! I use bevy_ui currently. It’s a bit messy and not particularly nice to work with but it gets the job done for now.

Thanks for the video, I have a suggestion for your game: You can add a breath bar like in Minecraft and it will decrease when you are in water and increase when you are in air. I think it will strengthen the loop.
@gavinlacefield54983 ай бұрын
Hey I love your videos, and the game looks great but may I suggest something. Due to the camera being so far out most of the different enemy types are hard to distinguish I think a way to fix this is to do what you had planned in one of the original iterations of your game with different enemies having different vibrant colors. That’s all, still love your videos, have a good day!

I played game called Beacon. One cool and memorable feature it has was health pickups. Besides generic medkits there were all kinds of strange fruits and even insects and critters that restore health when eaten. The Void in your game sounds like an ecosystem, would be great if health boxes won't be the only source of healing
