Please help, my camera sony a7cii, best lens for landscape fe70-200mm f2. 8 or fe70-200mm f4. Thanks

If you're shooting handheld and want better low light capability, go for the 2.8. If you're shooting on a tripod and low light capability is not a must, then f/4. If you're shooting strictly landscapes then f/4 should do, but if you want to shoot other types of photography down the road like portraits or products then f/2.8 will give you the extra light and extra bokeh. You'll have to compare prices as well. The f/2.8 is more expensive than the f/4 so that's another aspect you need to consider. Hope this helps.

Do you prefer a ball head on your tripod? I've starting to move away from them and using fluid video heads if I'm not going super light weight. Speaking of ND and CPL filters, I have settled on K+F filters. Not the cheapest but excellent quality at a reasonable price. Even better prices if you purchase from their Canadian website rather than Amazon or local dealers. Nice sunsets at the end! I'm so looking forward to the days getting longer so I can make it out to Iona after work before the sun sets. You seem to spend a lot of time there so maybe I'll bump into you there one evening.
@adriancaleanu3 күн бұрын
I don't really have a preference - this tripod I got because it's small and lightweight which is perfect for travel. It happen to come with a ball head. But I'm planing on getting a fluid head as well just to have both lol. In terms of filters I have Neewer which are very good and I use always. I also have a K&F, a Gobe and a Hoya. Sure thing, we can meet up in Iona and shoot some juicy sunsets.

@@adriancaleanu I have one set of Neewer filters that I just received but haven't had a chance to use yet. I generally like the quality (for the price) of other Neewer accessories that I've acquired but wasn't sure about the optical quality of their filters. Happy to hear that they meet with your approval. The weather forecast this weekend looks promising so unless my wife has other plans for me I'm hoping to head out to Iona tomorrow afternoon to shoot some birds and stay for the sunset. I'll watch for you in case you're there.

@@stevef1314 Yeah, Neewer filters are good. They don't alter the photos in any other way than what they're intended for. I might go on Seymour tomorrow but if not, I can meet you there. I saw a couple of bald eagles last time I was there.
@stevef13143 күн бұрын
@@adriancaleanu There is actually an eagle nest just inside the fence line at the back of the west pond. You can see it from the road if you know where to look. I'll send you an email to the address on your YT homepage with my email so we can arrange to meet if you decide not to go to Seymour.

Iona Beach is one of my favorite spots locally for sunset photos, especially when the tide is way out and the sun is reflecting off the wet sand flats. If you're lucky you'll get a heron or some shorebirds on the sand to silhouette against the sky. It was awesome this past summer when there was so much wildfire smoke in the air. My 70-200 is my go to lens for the beach sunsets. I've been to the end of the jetty several times both walking and by ebike but never for the sunset. Will have to plan a sunset shoot out there sometime soon. During the day, it can be a good spot for photographing cormorants and sea ducks that rarely come close to the shore. Iona Island is also one of the best spots in Metro Vancouver for bird photography. Never heard about the sunset finger trick before - handy to know (no pun intended).

I've been to Circus West (the building in the background) on the PNE grounds a few times and photographed birds at the Sanctuary Pond but never knew about Momijo Park. What a beautiful little hidden gem! Thanks for showing us that! I'll definitely have to check it out next time I'm in the area. As you mentioned, I do prefer the non-polarized images at 8:45 and 9:45 as I find the reflections of the trees on the water more appealing than the rocks at the bottom of the pond. However, I do prefer the polarized image at 10:00 over the non-polarized one.

@adriancaleanu hey bro, I know you didn't ask for advice, but I recon, if you put after each shot, photo of your settings on your camera, people can see the final product (the shot) and settings to achieve something similar in similar conditions. That way, the video becomes way more educational, and newbs like me can learn a lot 😇 IMHO. Thanks anyway. 😊 Cheers George

The hardest part of photography is choosing the perfect shot when so many shots look perfect. Any tips?
@adriancaleanu23 күн бұрын
When I shoot a very picturesque location I take tons of photos because every shot will have something different. Plus, not all the photos will be good enough, so multiple photos with multiple angles and subjects give me more chances to have an awesome shot. The more you shoot, the more you train your eye to see in frames. You will learn to pick out smaller frames within the large landscape without even looking through the view finder. You will see the photo before taking the photo. I'm looking strong compositions. Balance, symmetry, frame in a frame, foreground elements and so on. Shooting in a beautiful location is easy because you get your photo pretty much handed on a plate. Locations like forests are the ones that are difficult because as photographers we need to create some sort of sense and order in a very chaotic environment. Hope this helps.

Question - which filter or setting would I use in general terms to make greens (grass trees etc) more of a subdued colour. I find they are too neon in my videos. Thanks
@adriancaleanuАй бұрын
In the HSL tab play around with the Hue selector for the greens and yellows and see where the greens start to have a natural look. Also reduce the saturation a little and see where that puts you.

Circular doesn't mean the rotating holder. Polfilter blocks lightwaves in one direction (horizontally, vertically, it depends how you rotate it. This is why you lost some light), circular polfiters have a second layer that scatter the orientation of the waves. Linear Polfilters without it can blinding the phase detection af points if the lightwaves are hitting their sensor in the wrong direction.

6:25 I'm confused how the non-polarized photo took a longer exposure than the polarized photo with all other settings the same... if it lets less light in shouldn't it be the opposite?
@adriancaleanu2 ай бұрын
Yeah, you're right. I just checked the Raw files and the polarized one is way darker than the non-polarized. So to get the same exposure like the non-polarized one in camera, I should have dropped the shutter speed more to compensate for that loss of light that the CPL induces. But I shot it like that and made it brighter in post. That's why it doesn't make sense at first glance.

Thanks a lot! I have a Neewer filter kit: UV, ND and CPL. However I lost my CPL when I was in Italy in July, so I got another CPL from K&F Concept. I'm happy with them. They don't soften the image or alter the white balance when I put them on, which a lot of these super cheap filters do.

Wonderful images, but please do not refer to them as”Minimalist “ . I see this often with photographers claiming they are minimalist. I understated it’s not a well defined term , but it does have a definition, and it’s not the term in the dictionary.
@adriancaleanu3 ай бұрын
Thank ya! Nature really helped me out that day haha. Well, minimalism is using very simple ideas or a small number of elements. In other words, being extremely simple. I think the term is spot on. Also you have to keep in mind that this is in the photography context. For example the word Exposure in the photography context is different than the word exposure if we talk about walking naked on the street lol.
@johnconn9823 ай бұрын
@@adriancaleanu sorry it’s not spot on. When used as an ART term Minimalism has an elusive definition and is difficult to understand, however it has nothing to do with the dictionary definition. Well, small number of “ objects “ yes, however, and this is primary, they need to have a specific relation to the frame , and not just be a pleasing picture.
