If you go to an interior decorators shop you can ask for the books when they are out of fashion (mostly there are 2 or 4 new sample books a year!) and you can get them for free or for a small price. Most shop owners love that people work with them because they feel it's such a waste to just dump it.

How do you get on with copyright, given that you take the images straight out of the books?

Hi Annie, I'm not a lawyer and copyright law is different from country to country, so everyone must do their own due diligence. However, a friend who knows much more about this than I do explained how copyright is usually there to protect the original author against copying the work e.g. scanning, photocopying, making digital copies, ripping off the artwork as your own, etc. Using the original book images can generally fall under fair use (here in the UK), but there are considerations such as how much of the book is used, for what purpose, and does it detract from/replace the need for someone to buy the book. I do not believe using an image or two in a journal goes against fair use. Tracie Fox used to have a video explaining specifically how she'd been in contact with the publisher about the F.F books and they said most of the above to her aka using the original book images is fine, copying them is not. As I say, everyone must do their own due diligence, though, as I appreciate there are a lot of grey areas 😊

Your work is lovely and intriguing. I have a question. I know this reel was about flipping through the pages of the journal, with the emphasis on the pages you have created. It was quick and not too close in. I kept waiting to see the pages of the original book with the pictures and words showing that could be read to or by a child. Also my eyesight is not that good. Please don’t take this as a criticism of the journal/book because it is very inventive and beautiful. I know you said the original book pages are in order, but I had trouble picking them out. Were the book pages interspersed among the pages of the journal you created? Do you have an estimate of how many created journal pages are in between each 2 pages of the original book? I’m just trying to get a feel of the entire layout of the journal. Thank you. I look forward to learning from you.❤️ sincerely. Mona

Hi Mona, The original book pages were interspersed throughout the journal. I wasn't really following any kind of "formula" as such, but I'd say on average, there were approx 4 or 5 journal pages in between each book page. I used a lot of colourful scrapbook paper in this one, so the book pages did blend in quite a bit with those :-) In case it helps, I made this journal on video and I did a whole episode on how I built the signatures. Hi Justine! So sorry to hear that you have been battling with an injury I do hope that you are doing ok. I am so very far behind with my catching up on crafty everything being a full time carer for both my Mum & my Boyfriend takes up a lot of time these days plus I am battling a rather persistent sinus infection so even getting videos done atm are slow for me. I love this 15 minute challenge idea I would love to participate and will do so in the new way I think it is a great way to get around the online issues. Take care & I will do my best to get some catch up time! 💜

I like the idea of this challenge. It's also hard for me to find time every day but for completely different reasons. So I'm hesitating to sign up but it can't hurt right? How awful to hear that you couldn't do what you wanted for so long but I hope you recover completely, especially for yourself. And there are still a lot of your videos to watch.
