Thank you for this video. It was comforting to me for various reasons, too many to get into in a comment section Thank you, and thanks so much to Fr. Thomas Keating. ❤

I had a man that influenced me by talking about the 11th step in a subtle way. He said you are going to be rocketed into the 4th dimension, and I was. He shocked me once by introducing as his spiritual advisor. We have no idea the impact we can have on another. Thy will be done. The love I have received in Alcoholics Anonymous is ineffable.

Oh I love that! Temple culture does not work anymore we have to pray ourselves. Whatever the prayer looks like. I have been practicing Centering prayer for around seven years, and have no sacred word. It fills me daily-and it changed my life

I’ve come across this podcast through KZbin. KZbin introduced me to Richard Rohr, who talked at some point about stillness. About shutting up, so God can speak. He said it would change my life over the years. It did. Through KZbin Thomas Keating popped up. He then refined and taught me about Centering prayer. About consent to be in the presence of God. Then up popped James Finley. And more. I’m in daily prayer now and in daily service for the marginalised. I go to places I never thought I would. In my work and in my prayer. My community is a small Catholic parish where the priest sidelined me. But not the people. My community is all of you who descend, who consent to stillness and to God working through them. In all this I feel the most peaceful and joyful- it’s the hardest and best time of my life.

"Ziran (Chinese: 自然) is a key concept in Daoism that literally means "of its own; by itself" and thus "naturally; natural; spontaneously; freely; in the course of events; of course; doubtlessly"." 'Ziran' is another word for allowing the Spirit to act freely, that is, without any hindrance from this 'false self'. 'Ziran' is a central key concept in daoism, and 'daoism' articulates without any doubt a nondual perspective, in a somewhat different vocabulary though. I love it. And I'm starting to develop a loving relationship with the 'Spirit'. 'All you have to do is nothing", father Keating says at the end and can't hide a big smile. 'Doing nothing' is nothing less than a translation of that other basic daoist concept, 'wu wei'. You see, everything, or every no-thing for that matter, is one. It is a true 'mysterium tremendum et fascinans'. It is.

I've come a long way. Through presocratics, neoplatonism, daoism, buddhism and Hindi wisdom of several denominations, sufi and christian mystics and recently the Gospel of Thomas, to find all of this reformulated again and again in Thomas Keatings unique voice. We all have our addiction, and I'm starting to get addicted to this voice. If (and only if) his is Christianity, I no longer resist calling myself a christian. No-thingness is at the very center, at the very heart of it. It is as simple as it can get. A rocky road though. In another talk he tells us about the 'fall into the hands of God'. That is to say, a surrender to this no-thingness, which is, in a somewhat dispassionate formula, a transformation into a nondualist or divine perspective on world, yourself and their relationship. Original sin is nothing but a falling out of the hands of God, that is to say, falling into dualism. Our purpose is to find our way back into the divine. Father Keating is a great help for me to cultivate patience.

Many thanks…now let’s get this out in the open in “little ways”… a good start would be in mental health circles within congress…one step at a time. …Melania had an opportunity to be with Pope Francis during ….first reign and was taught how to pray?…………we can start there

I rarely leave comments on any channel but I have to thank the people of CO for posting this video of Fr. Thomas. I was guided to him unfortunately after he passed but nonetheless he has had an enormous contribution to my recovery from PTSD and I've read and watched just about everything I could get my hands on from him. This video really stands out for me bc it's the first time I've ever heard someone ask him about a direct experience with God and I've never heard him speak of one. Paradoxically it wasn't the neat, tidy, blissful experience one might hope for or expect; but "God writes straight with crooked lines" doesn't He? Instead Keating's spiritual experience, (or at least this one), came to him through great suffering; of both he, and of the fallen soldiers he prayed for. I can only say from someone who's no stranger to deep suffering that god really can and does turn suffering into love..."all you have to do is consent". What a beautiful man you are.

I am new to centering prayer, 4 months. It almost sounds like Fr Keating is saying if CP took over the world we could change evil into love. But with a fallen nature is that possible? Could he be saying the if we became a prayerful world that just might be the second coming? I'm searching here not making a point.
@carindove574011 күн бұрын
I've been doing centering prayer for 5years+ and God continues to use it as a means of deep transformation in my life. @bobm2331 I have often thought that what you are saying/asking is what Fr. Thomas seems to be saying. While I personally think it is possible and even inevitable that enough CP will completely transform the world, I am less optimistic than Fr. Thomas that enough people will be willing to consent to God's presence and action in their lives. But I'm a cynic and now that I've stated it so bluntly, I wonder if Fr. Thomas is right: if one has a clear picture of God's love and benevolence towards one, who would not long to consent? But there is so much in the way of people getting to that point. Maybe that's why the work of Fr. Thomas is so important: it is taking a stand against the powers and principalities that hold people captive and prevent them from finding their heart's true desire, God (for whom all names seem vastly inadequate to capture God's true and full nature). Where the second coming fits into all of this I do not know, but I have hope and trust that it is all connected in some way, that we will be pleasantly surprised when we get there, that it will be perfect and at the same time seem like "why didn't I think of that" obvious. Jesus left us with a mission of making disciples and loving one another as He loves us, and CP has a huge part in enabling me to participate in that. I am confident that out of doing as Jesus commanded/recommended/ invited, all shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well. It is, perhaps, not a straight answer, but if we knew the answer, perhaps we would not have the courage and the motivation to continue the battle against the forces of evil that hold people captive and addicted to power, control and esteem (the programs for happiness). Or there is some other good reason why the answer is hidden and a mystery. Wishing you infinitely well. The Lord is with you.

RR is a Universalist. He promotes syncretism. In scripture he would be labeled a false prophet. There is only One Mediator between God and man. Christ Jesus. Yes Christ is King and on a throne. Pantocrator. Romans talks about those who worship the creation. God hands them over to a debased mind. Tickling itching ears.

Non-duality is an existential threat to Christian fundamentalism. For Christianity to make sense as a religion of “salvation,” I must be an eternal soul, eternally separate from God. What non-dualism finds is that there is no separate anything. There is one thing: God. As Jesus says, “as you do it for the least of these, you do it for me.” This can be taken to point to non-duality. Everyone IS God. There is no separate existence. If “I” - the false self- am “nada” - then nothing is saved, and nothing is damned. This is the end of salvationist Christianity. Bless you for spreading the higher truth, and hopefully your work will be met with toleration.
