It might have been a good tractor if they would have put an engine oil cooler on it. IHC 1206 would turn out Twice the HP on a smaller engine - Just did not have enough rear to hold the 200+ hp the motor would turn hour after hour. I know a guy that have 3 5020 and traded all of them off the day the IH dealer demoed at 1206 that would pull his 7x16 on land hitch plow and do three rounds while the only 5020 that was in the field with a running engine would only do 2 rounds.

As was typical of so many dealers. Bring a turned up tractor for the demo and deliver the one you buy at a little under that setting just to watch the problems begin after the warranty is up. One thing for sure, the 5010 drive train could sustain much more power input for years. Kinzie put Detroits in them of nearly twice the power and torque. Couldn't do that with a 1206. Go forward to 1973 when the 6030 was new. Despite what some may say, that was the tractor every maker tried to keep pace with at the time. Some had more bells and whistles but it goes to show that engineering from the 50s introduced in the 60s into the 70s was still very much viable.

Notice theme music is from the old CBS western "Wanted Dead or Alive," which ended the year before.
