Beautiful set!! It's good to do a nice, slow power up on this TV in order to safely re-form the electrolytic capacitors. Failing to do this could FUBAR the set.

Hi Kent, very clear explanation, thanks! But my problem with the Grundig Yacht Boy 400 is something different. It functions good, but only at full volume. This happens on the speakers as well as on the earphones. The wheel for the volume turns very well up and down but does not change the volume. So probably there is something wrong with the potmeter? Or could it just be corrosion, because I didn't use the radio for several years. How can I solve this problem? First I would like to try cleaning the contacts, but how and where? Thanks in advance for your advice, Lo Bouwens, The Netherlands.
@KOVintageTech18 күн бұрын
@@lobouwens5087 great question. I would disassemble the radio to get to the audio pot. Spray it with deoxit or contact cleaner. Be careful with chemicals as you don’t want to ruin the plastics. If that doesn’t fix it look closely at the three contacts on the pot. There may be a short of some kind between the terminals.

Joy Ride by Billy Vaughn was released 1954 on Dot Records 15247 and is not the proper 78 format record for that type of stylus The older shellac had wider grooves and took the metal needle you have with that player. This Dot Record 78 as with most 78 rpms that were released after 1940 have smaller grooves and sapphire stylus were then used as seen with the more modern record players that used the flip over stylus' where one side was 33 and the other side was 78 all in the same cartridge.

Good info. I appreciate the insight.
@electrajojo22 күн бұрын
Those needles are only good for a couple plays so it's either that needle is worn out or those records are really worn out because it sounds reeeeally Bad. Even for what it is, it should sound better than that, it's like 90% distortion.

Just what I was looking for. My Royal 20 arrived in the mail today. Box was crushed by the PO but fortunately the seller packed really well and the radio was not damaged. Virtually mint. One terminal very slight corrosion and the inside paper has some discoloration over some key info. Needed to find the battery spec. As I remembered, the old mercury batteries were opposite polarity of the button cells we see now. On the radio, the positive terminal is the bottom of the case. As this video also shows, the volume dial is slightly angled. At first I was concerned it was broken, but that is how it is supposed to be.
