Great topic for fancy serial numbers. Certainly collect what you want 100% but know if you're purchasing "almost" fancy notes know that the only place you ever will get more than face is on eBay. The numbers are interesting but a Local Coin Shop/Currency Dealer would give face value. Do the strap search for free! Thanks for sharing.

Hey, thank you for stopping by! I agree that eBay offers the best chance of selling novelty bills. That and it's usually clear from the sales prices that to make any profit at all, the seller needs to find them in the wild so that his/her cost is face value.

I would not buy an “almost” super-repeater. If I found it I’d probably hold on to it as an example but imho it’s not worth more than face value.

Yeah I agree, I'd do the same thing. I do have a few different notes that I bought that likely are worth face. We each probably have something we like enough to buy even though it's just us.

Very informative video. Your trinary at 1:10 was a very cool find and oh so close to being a home run if that 3 had been a 0. That date note at 1:19 is one I would check the date on to see if any historical events happened then GD

Yeah I think the lowest serial I've found in the wild is three leading zeroes. 00000055 would have been a jackpot for sure! And also I found there's a Wikipedia article on the year 1269; I won't gloss over those quite so quickly moving forward :)

Also known as an alternator - alternating 0's in this case. The fact that it counts down by 10's makes it more valuable than 10705080 for instance. Definitely a keeper.

I can't find any examples of bills missing the last number of the serial, guess it would be described as fully turned digit? I do have one of these and have been trying to get an estimate on value, with no luck.

I did a little research on the 60504030 note. It's a "counting 10s Ladder" or "Multiples of 10 Ladder" and there are only 17 of these in every 96M block run. Really rare. More rare than a binary radar, or even true binary. Wanna sell it to me, lol?

You're my kind of collector! One thing I run up against a lot is exposure to the established currency dealer community and what they view as worth even considering for sale. I'm convinced it's mostly peer pressure, but the more I see of it, the less likely I am to pursue joining that club! I'll probably keep the bill for now but I'll remember you if I decide to part with it.

I have been throwing back notes similar to those but none so far have been skipping every 10 numbers in descending order like yours is. If I found that one I am sure I would have kept it.. Another name for that I think is a skip note but I could be wrong so don't hold me to that. GD

Good advice John, collect what you like and don't spend a lot of money without a plan. While I have purchased items I prefer the hunt of going through bank straps because I can never loose. I can always spend or take back to the bank anything I decide to get rid of and along the way I may find items that are worth more than face value

Yep, definitely a difference between a fancy serial number, and a cool serial number. I save some of each. If one strikes your fancy, why not hang onto it. On the collecting side, there really is not a set of rules, that becomes more of a seller or dealer issue.

I think where most people get confused is with the difference between a cool serial number and a rare serial number. A cool number is one that speaks to you where as a rare one is a serial number that is very uncommon to find. Your star notes at 2:32 and at 4:06 are always cool notes to find and have the potential to be rarer notes depending on how many were in the print run or if they were part of the duplicate errors. Always enjoy seeing what others find in their searches. GD

Having a bill "speak to you" is a great way to put a cool bill! And good point about the stars. I've heard other collectors say that with print run size "it depends" but I have run across some of the duplicate stars!

The BEP is no longer making Star Notes as replacement notes, so, could be worth hanging onto as many as possible.

@@collectingonthecheap56353 Interesting! I found a 2023 article that talks about new equipment that will not produce the star notes, but the traditional equipment will continue to print them. They do seem a bit endangered though!

I like finding the stuff I collect in the wild. IDK why but it doesn't feel right if I was to purchase a coin/bill and add it to my existing collection. Id have to start a whole separate collection strictly for purchased items. But that's just me 😜. Nice video I enjoyed watching it.
