Nice fish, well worth the trip. Just out of interest, what tracking app are you using in this video?

Cheers it was definitely worth the trip, hopefully longer next time if the weather plays ball. I used the Navionics app as my fish finder battery packed up on the way out and I wasn't giving up finding the wreck haha.

Thank you for your comment. There is nothing that feels better than seeing these beautiful creatures swim off well. That why I always use debarbed circle hooks as they are so quick and easy to remove.

Hi thanks for your message. Yeah there is a car park right on the sea front. Knapp rock car park. Best get there early.and it does cost about a fiver for the day but it's so easy to load up and launch.

*_I love this kayak!>_**_allmy.tips/SevylorKayaks?L _**_ < It's perfect for paddling around on the lake. It's easy to maneuver and super lightweight to carry. The design is brilliant - from backpack to fully inflated in less than 10 minutes. In the off season, I store them on the wall in the garage - in the backpack. All of my friends are jealous and want one now. I'll definitely recommend they get one of their own._*

Hey man great vid, can I ask did you use whole mackerel and how'd you present on the hook? Cheers
@hprobe234 жыл бұрын
Thank you for you comment on the vid. On this trip I didn't manage to catch any mackerel but did get some pollock. I used a whole dead one with the 10/0 circle hook pushed through it's lower and upper jaw with the point above the top of the jaw. Good solid bait so dogfish don't destroy it before the tope get them
@Fishwish5 жыл бұрын
Thats your reel ****ed but so worth it! Well played. What sort of depth of water are you in? I've thought the same thing - why Tope fish on a kayak? Looks fun - is there risk of them biting you when you're handling them?
@davewalker38734 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've been biten a few times by hounds. Not had a tope on my kayak but imagine the risk is the same.
@hprobe233 жыл бұрын
Well funnily enough that okuma trio reel is still going ok. I'm not the best at looking after my kit but I have serviced it every year and still going well. We are on a ledge that rises to 20 to 30 ft from around 60 70 ft. I've never had one bit me but it's a case of just keeping their head away from your body as much as possible after unhooking. The smaller ones I've found to be more feisty on board.

Really enjoyed that video. Whats the tide run off here like? Assuming its fine to anchor or drift? Many thanks.
@hprobe235 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yeah the tide is fine here for both anchoring and drifting. Although I anchor for the tope, it is possible to drift the ledge it wouldn't take long to cover it.

Awesome. Any tips for anchoring in a fairly strong tide like you are there! Great video
@hprobe235 жыл бұрын
If you've not anchored before I would highly recommend you start in either a lake or somewhere where there is very little or no tide flow to begin with. I learnt at a practice day with South Wales kayak anglers. The idea is to have your anchor with at least 1m of chain attached to it and then to you anchor line. Always run it through your head before you do it so you know what to do when you do anchor up. Always make sure you have enough line to let out especially on deep water or strong tides. I paddle up tide of where I want to drop the pick then once it's on the sea bed, I let out atleast 3 times the depth if no more to allow the anchor to grip and hold you tight. Next time I'm out in deep water I will do a video of how I anchor up.

hi what would be a good stable kayak for me to buy to fish from ,
@hprobe235 жыл бұрын
My first one was the yellow ocean kayak t13. There are loads out there from various makes that's would do well. Do you know what you want to target and what type of fishing you will mainly be doing? Drift fishing, anchoring up etc?
@rerewest47035 жыл бұрын
Would rather you released shark sooner , than pose it up in the air for a long time..for camera ..then try to revive it before releasing it.
@hprobe235 жыл бұрын
Well when you catch a fish of a lifetime, you get carried away. Agree with you that it shouldn't be out that long but it went back strong as the fight was quick so not tired out too much. That's why I use heavy gear for the Tope.

Whats it like launching from here
@hprobe235 жыл бұрын
It's not bad there is parking and a slipway, but there is a gate which is locked as it's the local boat club. Easy enough to get kayaks over before loading up with kit. Worth going out with some guys who know it well in regards to tides and conditions.

@hprobe235 жыл бұрын
@@markmay7807 yeah drysuit is a must for winter fishing. It is so worth the expense getting a drysuit. A bit of kit along with a pfd that will help you if you end up in the water. Great to hear you with Swka, you will have loads of topics on the forum to look through to give you guidance. And if in doubt on anything just ask and someone will answer.

Thanks for your message, This is down Tenby. We launched at South beach and drifted with the tide towards Lydstep. You can target Tope from Oxwich Bay although I would strongly recommend going out with a fishing buddy. Check out South Kayak Anglers on the web as they are a great club with regular kayak fishing outings. Plus you will learn loads of tips on fishing and safety. Tight lines fella, might even see you out there one day.
