My roommate once told me his parents invited him over for “steak” without telling him it was cauliflower steak. I have no issues with a vegetarian alternative to steaks, but for the love of god, don’t serve this to someone under the pretense of “you’re going to be eating steak” 😂

Whether the definition is correct or not is irrelevant. Steak is associated with meat, usually cow (beef), in the most prominent cuisines. A damn vegetable of any kind is gonna be shunned.

“some people will be upset” doesn’t make their being upset any more justified. people have been mad about it people changing the meanings of words, the standards of artistic and scientific standards, of social values ever since we’ve had those things to conserve. and yet time and time again we see that people can grow up and get over it. if calling a vegetable a steak is even remotely comparable to the holocaust, that’s on you because you could just as easily compare it to Shakespeare, to Picasso, to Mozart, to the Beatles. artists who redefined categories, pushed back against what the mainstream considered objectively good, and now go down in history as classics and pillars of their fields. great food and great art is great regardless of what it’s called and how mad people get at boundaries being broken. so just enjoy the damn cauliflower

Arguably misleading. Thats more like rossted or baked cauliflower. Take a meat steak and cut it up on your plate and its still steak. Do that to your cauliflower and now its diced cauliflower. Im not here to knock the recipe, im here to knock the language used to define incorrectly. I could cut it a different way, wouldnt suddenly make it a "rack of cauliflower" immitating a rack of ribs. Youre calling circles squares at this point and THATS the hill ill die on. Inb4 veggies crying about "shitting" on them because theyre wrong with their words.
