Bourns...regarding audio pots for guitar: you know why you sell so little pots compared to CTS ? Its because on your technical sheets you have noted "18 knurls" (or spline) - while you must say 24 knurls as CTS counts the missing teeth also.

what will happen if we add more movs in parrallel, example 5 movs are in parralel, will clamping voltage decrease? and how many times it will decrease, approximeate 5 times or else? thank you
@bournsvideosАй бұрын
Assuming the selected Metal-Oxide Varistor (MOV) has a clamping voltage of 400 volts at 1 kiloampere, to maintain a clamping voltage of 400 volts at 5 kiloamperes, you would need to connect 5 of them in parallel. Each MOV would ideally handle 1 kiloampere, provided they share the current equally. While MOVs generally maintain a relatively constant clamping voltage, it's important to note that the clamping voltage can increase slightly with higher surge currents. Here is the paper that explains a little bit in detail: www.bourns.com/docs/technical-documents/technical-library/varistors/bourns-tips-on-selecting-the-right-mov-surge-suppressor-white-paper.pdf?sfvrsn=cb5e43f6_12

Thank you. Now if you could include a simple example of integrating these in power strip's and how to select for 100V - 120V / 220V - 240V together with the wiring that is for a dual voltage power supply - input to switch to a dual transformer, that would be awesome, oh and using your dual usage mov-spark gap. 😊 Many thanks.

Can the mini-breakers also withstand small current pulses, for example pulses with an 8-20 us pulse shape?
@bournsvideos11 ай бұрын
Yes, the breaker can withstand such short pulses. It is designed to withstand typical EDS pulses like the 8/20usec one described below.

According to the Bourns published article "0919 Bourns Q2-Q4 2019 GMOV Hybrid Overvoltage Protection Component.pdf", it seems the GMOV initially allows a short-time high voltage surge occurring down to the protected circuitry. Is that surge not dangerous to the circuit?
@bournsvideos2 жыл бұрын
All series GDT / MOV solutions (GMOV, IsoMOV and discrete devices) will exhibit this initial voltage spike. It exists while the GDT is turning on and only lasts a fraction of a microsecond. As such, it contains very little energy. In most applications, there are capacitors used in filters on the AC line that will absorb this small amount of energy and it becomes a non-issue. As with every circuit protection design, each designer must confirm the effectiveness of their design in the lab. Bourns has laboratories across the globe that can assist customers that might have concerns in this area.

As long as the fault current doesn’t significantly exceed the PPTC device’s rated current, the PPTC will trip as intended without any smoking.

This is an amazing product- its in series with your circuit so it doesn't shunt to ground, causing huge current spikes on your source, it is much different than a PTC or NTC input current limiter. Where can I get SPICE models for this?

A helpful video. I need to replace some MOV's and during a component meta search I came across the GMOV. I had never heard of it and I did a quick search on this product. Although it is double the price of a standard a MOV I will probably order these GMOV's instead because I do value long term reliability.

Why does every wiring set I've seen connect the hot pickup wires to the wiper (centre term) of the blend pot ? What this does is load the pickup up differently depending on position from half point down , each pickup should be across the pot and wipers mixed with resistors .
