Boy, Carpentier really let that fight get away. Siki belonged in a nut house.

The legend or inside story, was that the fight was fixed so Carpentier didn't have to really train for it. During the fight, however, Carpentier really went at Siki like he was trying to hurt him thinking he could do what he wanted. This really pissed of Siki who decided to throw away the script and go all out on Carpentier. Carpentier not having trained could not take the real pace and pressure and got his ass whooped.

He was a prick for accepting to cheat the fight. You've got to stand up in front of these white bigots. Let the lion roar!
@JamesAlexGerardcreator7 жыл бұрын
And what might have angered Georges Carpentier and the bigots at the time before their bout was that Sikki had a beautiful, blonde Dutch, Caucasian girl he lived with at the time and that enraged such bigots beyond reason before "racial tolerance" and "interracial relationships" were allowed. So they were out to get him. When he escaped to America and was found shot to death on a city street in New York, they had succeeded. To get even for a number of things, mainly Georges Carpentier, but maybe for being with white women as well. And if I recall that one television interview with the former heavyweight world champion Jack Dempsey in his older age, he admitted he never held any resentment against any opponent he fought. Save one: Georges Carpentier. Who was then-undisputed world-light heavyweight champion and challenged for Dempsey's world-heavyweight title. Much hype was made before that bout. With Georges Carpentier accusing Jack Dempsey of what he described as "pure cowardice" for "getting out of" and dodging the military draft in World War One. Which, in a way, was true. Carpentier made an issue of his combat experience and trashed Dempsey for not getting on "the field of honor" and fighting like a man on battlefields. Dempsey countered, inviting Carpentier to "show him" about fighting in the ring. Then "dare" prove his fighting ability. It was said Dempsey carried Carpentier for more rounds than he should have -- just to punish him. Then stood over his prone form and "dared him" to get up and prove his body couldn't cover the checks his mouth had written, that kind of thing going on. Supposedly, the only man Jack Dempsey ever really "wanted" to hurt in a fight. The only one. That Georges Carpentier of France. The only opponent he felt needed "a strong lesson" and he admitted he was glad for giving that to him. Supposedly. And what Sikki had related to his trusted friends after that bout, despite the fix in which he agreed to go down, Carpentier got mean and was the one that threw the fix, hissing at Sikki in French -- a language the Senegal immigrant had learned -- "You stay down there! You hear me, you rotten, dirty n*gger? You stay down. Or I will hurt you worse. You n*gger scum," Sikki related Carpentier had stated. Remember, it was a fixed fight. Sikki only went down because he was supposed to. He claimed Carpentier never hurt him, nor could he. But after the French world champion negated the fix and broke the agreement, all Sikki did was defend himself from abuse -- and took out a man who could never beat him fair-and-square. Just remember, "mixed-race" fights were unpopular and even illegal in those days. Jack Dempsey never faced a black fighter his entire career. Despite challenges from Sam Langford's camp to fight for the world title -- even as the great black heavyweight contender had cataracts that made him "legally blind" -- Jack Dempsey and his handlers refused to meet him in the ring for "fair fight" between them. Georges Carpentier wanted to prove people wrong that he could defeat a black fighter at that time. Of course, it would come with a "fix" agreement that went sour. Carpentier could never beat Sikki fair-and-square, and himself and his handlers knew that. Hence the "fix" that was made to make the champion look good. But it exposed him-- and that cost Sikki his reputation, his title and his own life a few years later. ###
