Fascinating. Were the book pages wet and moulding?
@studio5bookarts4 ай бұрын
The last few weeks have been pretty wet, so yes, the pages will mould to some degree. I will be drying out then freezing the books. Followed with further treatments.

Whereabouts in NZ? Christchurch, ahead of our disastrous earthquakes in 2010-11, or further north in (usually) more prone places? (to earthquakes, not book burials ;)

Hi, I believe it was buried in the North Island, 2010/11 sounds about right.

I am a very amateur book maker, mainly making for friends and family, . I've watched loads of bookbinding videos, and learn something new every single time. This time it was the little tip about putting glue on a bit of paper to seal down an errant bit of the cover which hadn't stuck properly. And yes, I loved your hand made papers, flittage(?) and would love to see how this is done. Thank so much.

What is flitage and how do you do it?
@studio5bookarts10 ай бұрын
Hi, Flottage is a technique of decorating paper and other materials with oil based inks.

Excellent idea, I am always fumbling but someone else showed me that if I use a piece of painter's tape on the waste sheet it will hold it in place on the backing boards hopefully long enough to get it in place
