'Years ago, I encountered a local Gamelan performance trying very hard to adapt to the need of the community by playing modern music on traditionally tuned Javanese Gamelan. Seeing the reaction of the audience, I told myself that something must be done to the Arts, to be accepted and rekindle the interest of the masses. Of this, I push for the creation of the Diatonic Gamelan.
From day one, I've set my goal to try and establish a unique Gamelan sound and style that someday can be accepted as unique, and at the same time try to create an avenue for my students to pursue their love for the art. In 2008, Siglap Secondary School Gamelan Ensemble was invited to perform in an International Arts Festival in one of Indonesia's prestigious teachers' college in Kaliurang, Yogyakarta. They received Commendation reviews and their performance was label as uniquely Singapore style Gamelan.'
