Thanks Jon. Any chance you could do a video in detail what happens after the takeaway. You briefly touched on it regarding turning lead shoulder . But think it would be more helpful to go through how the trail arm folds , how wrists work etc .etc. Thanks I enjoy your videos there very helpful

Thank you for this. I wanted to comment that my feeling in the release is one of pulling the grip off the shaft with lead hand, arm, shoulder while keeping right shoulder down.

Very helpful tip, similar to your chipping advice of rotate & rise. I’m struggling with closing the face with driver. Path is inside - out, so that’s good, but I need help with not leaving the face open. Could you do a video on that topic?

I think your idea Jon of moving the head during the swing is a good one. I think of two pro golfers that did it. . . .Jack Nicklaus and Annika Sorenstam! It definitely goes along with being flexible during the swing! Well Done Jon!

I have been standing up in the downswing causing the ball to go right. I find that if I set up with a slight right side bend or crunch it reminds me to side bend through the ball. Thank you for your video it has really helped me.

Jon can you help with this mental problem I have over putting the drill into a normal swing. When I do the drill which I,m quite ok with the arms and hands esp the wrists end up in a somewhat strained artificial position ,quite understandably given the nature of the drill. When I try to put it into practice on a normal full swing knowing that the wrists have to release and the arms bend .at some late point I go back to flipping again or completely mistime it

In practice, make sure you break 10 technical drill swings with 10 natural. Making the new moves at a slower pace full swing are also really helpful. Make sure you video every at least 4 swings throughout the practice to check rather than just trusting feel. I’m not sure what parts you’re talking about with your comment however. Flipping at impact? Closing the face or adding loft? Worth checking your working on the right areas and you can physically make the moves! Happy to take a look online if I can help?

@TruGolfAcademy sorry to have confused you with my query. my fault entirely. the drill was "how to get your hands ahead of the ball at impact" . this is where Jon is hitting a 6 iron with the ball opposite his lead heel as for driver. I really like this drill as I am an inveterate scooper or flipper at impact so the same query remains. I think I inadvertanty skipped to your next video by mistake when sending my question Apologies again.

The other concern for me that I forgot to mention is that I feel timing is required to drop the arms to the correct position. For example if you don’t drop them enough before you turn the body, you could end up with an out to in swing or thin it. Conversely, if you drop them too far then you could hit the ground and hit it fat, whereas if you just tilt the right shoulder down slightly on the downswing, no timing is require as you can just swing as hard and fast as you are capable of. Do you see my confusion?
@Robert-ts2ef
@Robert-ts2ef 28 күн бұрын
John, I understand completely what you have said but other instructors say to move the body and arms together on the downswing by dropping your right shoulder slightly on the downswing to allow you to swing from the inside. 😊My confusion is: which method should I be using to play my best golf. The pro’s tend to swing so fast that you cannot tell which method they are using??? Your thoughts are appreciated.

The first couple of tips for the wrist(s) may help some people to increase their hand speed. Given that many 3d software used on long hitting tour pros and long drive competitors have hand deceleration from when the hands reach the trail leg on the downswing through the rest of the swing the handle pull up near impact is insignificant. The club shaft is not a rubberband. It doesn't stretch and retract, and because of that the clubhead will not extend down to the ball/ground as the club handle and hands pull up - that's not how the laws of physics operate.

The perfect place to do it? Got to let the angles go eventually, at impact with a mid iron I still have around 8 degrees of shaft lean and delofting the clubs by around 5 degrees 👍🏻

I manage to hit my shorter irons really nicely thinking about exiting left... But longer irons bit more erratic somehow..
@TruGolfAcademy
@TruGolfAcademy Ай бұрын
It maybe down to D plane (worth looking up) basically the more you hit down the more left you need to swing, so longer clubs, where the angle of attack is shallower the path wouldn’t need to be as left. This of course does depend on what shot shape you’re trying to hit!

Yeah 👍🏻 my point here is hand speed is the down cocking of the wrists plus flexion to extension of the lead wrist.

I’m having trouble reconciling this video and "HOW TO SQUARE THE FACE BY BOWING THE LEAD WRIST “ with the video "WRIST ANGLES EXPLAINED - BACKSWING AND DOWNSWING MOVE”. I must be misunderstanding this because it appears they are opposite? In the the latter, the Bucket drill appears to advise Lead wrist is below the trail wrist during backswing, but they reverse going down. It appears they reverse by a slight clockwise rotation of left forearm. With the other 2 video’s, it appears you are recommending getting the lead wrist under and trail wrist at top or on way down. The only way I can do that is via a counter-clockwise rotation of forearms. Can you help me understand better - Love these tutorials but my brain is twisted on this one.
@TruGolfAcademy
@TruGolfAcademy Ай бұрын
Can be a confusing area for sure! So if your aiming to keep the lead wrist more neutral or even slightly bowed (more in flexion) at the start of the downswing we would want the finger tips feeling like they are pointing more behind you which would keep the trail elbow lower the lead elbow. As you’re body rotates down to just pre impact (p6) where the club is parallel to the ground that same wrist position would mean the palm of your trail hand is pointing a little more down to the ground and the right elbow will start to lose flex into impact so looking like the arm is more on top. Does that make sense? Maybe try it slowly without a ball at home! Happy to arrange an online lesson to help check this is an area you actually need to work on and clear up further!?

If the arms just drop, where do you get some power- -wildly rotating at the last minute?
@TruGolfAcademy
@TruGolfAcademy Ай бұрын
It’s a feel for golfers that swing more over the top. The arms would never move “drop” without other things happening like pressure moving towards your lead foot 🦶 and the body rotating. This feel also can help golfers keep more wrist angle “lag” to use into impact 👍🏻

Creating an either or is artificial. Both are needed. Pure body release is quite contrived and artifical.
@TruGolfAcademy
@TruGolfAcademy Ай бұрын
Agreed I’m not suggesting there is no hands in a more body rotational move, just less reliance on hands to square the face. We would still need forearm supernation, Downcock of wrists and lead wrist moving from flexion to extension. Just the driving force (engine) Would be the body

As a (62 year old) former tennis professional now obsessed with golf, I sought out videos that would help me transfer expertise in throwing the racket head on a forehand to my golf swing. I watched 12 videos on the throwing the club head concept and importance. This video is by far the best for me. I’m headed to the range today to start building precisely these muscle memory movements.
