Before selecting the alignment make sure the alignment line is inside the boundary of the contour surface. Your problems will be solved.

@@mainaksaha2260 Why not obviously... but for this kind of easy task you don't need Civil 3D you can do it on normal CAD. Civil 3D is much more. Normal CAD+Extra dynamic drawing.

@@umeshkumarsah759 ok Now I understand your problems... First of all please make the topo map of the landslide zone. Then after make the cross-section exactly over there but remember the chainage should be exactly matched with your old as-built drawing x-section after then overlap the crossection with each other and find out your quantity of excavation.
