Only met this guy for a short time at Sigma 3 before his passing but he was extremely humble and was very passionate about helping others learn bushcraft. He had a wealth of information that he loved sharing. He is missed by many.

Mullein indeed. Second season stalk is great for Hand drill fires and as Norman said the leaves if smoked once dried will break up mucus and such if you have a chest infection.

I find young elderberry by far the best hand drill. Leave the bark on the top for friction grip and cushioning the hands, and it works well on willow. Give it a try. Also I like to hold the large end and spin the small end into the hearth (Al Hancon trick) Thanks

Male on top, flowers and pollen. Slime good for sunburn, lots of food parts, soft cordage, thatching and even clothing. Don't forget the world famous "Cat on the Cob." Thanks

I met him later after he had become the head instructor at Sigma 3 for the sigma 3 advanced class. He was very good at what he did. It was sad to hear of his passing away from brain cancer earlier this year.

How legit is sigma 3? I want to do the 45 day course, but there's not that much about them- I don't want to waste money on a dog water course.
@mharm7342 жыл бұрын
@@Gabriel_the_Shemite It's good but a lot of folks fail starving at the end and tapping out. I'd recommend you make sure you can fast for days and handle going into ketosis for a week before paying for it. One tip I can give is there tend to be armadillos in that area and if you find holes for their dens you can set blind deadfall traps that trigger when they come out as a good food source.
@Gabriel_the_Shemite2 жыл бұрын
@@mharm734 Thank you for replying, and I appreciate the tips. Was the class worth the money? Or would you have rather spent the cash on a different school such as Dave Canterbury?
@mharm7342 жыл бұрын
@@Gabriel_the_Shemite I visited the pathfinder school too. I'd say if you go out to pathfinder make sure you have rubber boots that go up to your knee because you're walking through thick mud, and a hammock to sleep in because the ground is uneven. Also make your 10 c's easy to carry. Good to learn your knots first too. I also had problems with some parts, like they did the navigation instruction at night and wouldn't let me use a flashlight and I couldn't read their chalkboard or my notes. I ended up having some medical concerns and leaving before I finished and one of the instructors on my way out called me a rat leaving in the middle of the night which wasn't cool. I ended up having to have emergency surgery and spend a week on a catheder so I think I probably made the right call. I'd rather be called a rat than end up on dialysis which was what the doc said would of happened if I hadn't gone to the hospital. The issues weren't caused by the course, they were preexisting things I wasn't aware of, I should of had a medical exam before going so entirely my bad it came up. Both are good for a survival resume, though I like Sigma 3 better because they treated me better. I also think Karamat Wilderness Ways in Canada is great, though its 7 days not 45. Its the one founded by Mors Kochanski the father of bushcraft. Cody Lundin has an amazing school too that I would love to visit one day, I haven't seen that one yet.

Personal preference for me. I think my Civivis look better, classier, when they show the stainless blade, clip, and screws as compared to the black coating. To each his own, I respect your opinion and can see your point.

Sage had to go to an intensive care unit last weekend. I turned out he had a large brain tumor and has had a lot of doctors and nurses working on him. He is getting tested for cancer this Wednesday and Friday he is having brain surgery. There are posts about what's going on and how to help with his gofundme for the medical bills on his justin sage williams page on facebook. Hoping he can pull through this one things look pretty grim right now. I took one of his classes in 2018 and he was a great guy and a good person to work with.
