Thank you for your interesting question! Let’s take a look at the difference between an Intercom System and Doorbell. First, they have different prices and technical functions. Intercom System allows you to control an electric lock and always provides a monitor inside the premises for communicating with guests, which does not depend on the internet. In the case of Wi-Fi doorbells, you typically can not control the lock and are heavily reliant on an internet connection. As for the Ubiquiti Doorbell, its system is a bit more complex than a regular Wi-Fi doorbell. As long as you have at least 2 solid wires running from the front door to the interior, it will work! We highly recommend solid wires since stranded wires can cause video/audio issues.
