I'm a heavy guy who can't swim due to negative buoyancy I sink . I mentioned to Ironman they can give me the slowest time out of the water or slowest time of the day if I could use a life jacket, out came the rules on approved wetsuits and temperatures. I can run a marathon, cycle 100-miles but I can only swim 3 meters top of the pool to the bottom. I no longer care about Ironman as it's image is more important than letting people have a go, and yeah I'm too big for the approved wetsuits.

Im about to do my first ever triathlon. Half Ironman Madison. Ngl, I'm pretty pissed about all the random rules. Like, I've got a trek road bike from 2007. The dude with the 2024 tribike worth my house probably has an advantage. Who cares about a damn water bottle? And why can't we wear headphones as a non pro or even non competitor for an age group!? 6 hours with nothing but silence? Lol, im good

If taped handlebars are artificial increase of streamlining, isn‘t every other part of a modern aero-bike the same? Like full carbon wheels or low-drag bottles?

I’m very slow on the bike so I draft whenever I can. They usually don’t have officials way back where I’m at!!!
@triathlonHowАй бұрын
The officials tend to care more about officiating the competitive age groupers and pros. I'm sure they're not going after a self confessed slow biker 😅.

Ironman is banning "letting gas out" as a "propelling fairing".
@hawk4015Ай бұрын
Serious question. So if I wear a smooth neat bag on my chest instead of putting water bottle inside jersey does that give me more aerodynamic?
@triathlonHowАй бұрын
In theory, if the shape of the bag is more aerodynamic and the bag was seamless against your chest, it could make you faster, however, that would be considered a fairing and would be against the rules.

$15000 super slick bike designed with aerodynamic in mind, but making yourself streamlined is illegal? That makes no sense at all

Is this also a rule for Amateurs?
@triathlonHowАй бұрын
That's a good question - as far as I can tell, this rule applies to amateurs as well. The application of these rules appears to be less strict when compared to professionals.
@samanderson7745Ай бұрын
Depends on the amateur. If you're up towards the front of the pack and chasing an overall or a podium in a (and, yes, I know this sounds bad) competitive age group then you can expect them to watch you a bit more. However, if you're a middle to back of the pack you're generally safe, but it can happen. You're more likely to get hit with a blocking violation though.

Great video, thank you :) I really struggle with my heart rate tho. I started running in april and am following a training plan (adidas running/runtastic). It gives me a certain pace that is usually quite okay but my heart rate is always in the 180-190s. My Zone 2 should be something around 130? :D' So when I run, I wont get anywhere near zone 2, but if I'm walking (not even power-walking or something like that) I am right there. Its a bit frustrating to be honest. Do you maybe have any tips? :)
@triathlonHowАй бұрын
Hey there - I'm glad you enjoyed the video - welcome to running! Being consistent and patient is key to progress. It can take many months for your heart rate to drop while running (or walk/running) at the same pace. Following a training plan that slowly builds up your mileage is a great starting point. If your heart rate is that high, you may be running at too fast of a pace for your current fitness. It's also possible that the heart rate numbers you're seeing aren't completely reliable. If you don't already have one, a dedicated heart rate monitor could be useful in getting accurate numbers. The best rule of thumb to see if you're in the ball park is that when you're running in zone 2 is that you are able to hold a conversation with full sentences. If you can only get out a few words between breaths, you're likely running too fast for zone 2. I hope this helps 🙂

I still don’t understand it so iron man athletes can’t pass? If they are not allowed to draft is what you said. Or they are only allowed the 25 seconds?
@triathlonHow2 ай бұрын
The long and short of it: When you enter the draft zone, you have 25 seconds to complete the pass. This is the simplest way to view it 🙂.

It separates the air before it hits your nether regions. Yeah, it is a microscopic gain aerodynamically, but if you think about it, the diamond frame bike hasn't changed much since 1926, and manufacturers are doing all they can to market a new bike to you. "1 watt here", "2 watts there".... I don't envy the marketing managers, but then again, people are dumb enough to keep spending $10K on a new bike despite there being absolutely no reason to. "I got a scratch on my Ferrari, time to buy a new car."
