In the books Armand was a Teenager when he was turned. Claudia was a truely traped in a childs body because they made her so young. Armand was strong in the blood dew to his maker being strong, but Lestat was way stronger than him partly because Magnus was strong in the blood, but Lestat also gained in vampire powers from drinking from Akasha. but when it comes down to it Louis might be weeker than Armand in the blood, but he was a more powerful personality.

Remember in the books Louis is white, the show creators changed things up. Lestat's wealth made it easier to be together in 1910 to 1940's. Vampires aren't racist they are above it. They acknowledge that it exists. After WW2, Europe had a more positive attitude to black people. That is why Louis' friend joined the army.

Yes, Armand turned Daniel. Armand is in the next books. He continues to make enemies. 😅😅😅😅 The book "The Vampire Lestat" is hilarious. In the series, he will have a full concert tour. Daniel is choking because Lestat disagrees with Louis' version of their life together as documented in Daniel's book. Louis will be in season 3.

In the book, Lestat is still recovering from the assault on him by Claudia and Louis in 1940 New Orleans Mardi Gras night. Lestat was forced by the coven to return to Paris for the trial. He was told what to say during the trial. When he went off-script, it angered Santiago and the others.

3:03 from what I understand of Anne Rice's vampire lore their vampire eye color is just completely random it has nothing to do with personality or the type of powers they have or anything like that. It would be cool if it did!...but yeah it just seems to be kind of random... The thing that ties all of their eyes together is that they're supposed to look freaky and inhuman. Thats it. It's just something that's an obvious visual cue to humans that the person that they're interacting with is NOT a human being. Which then causes vampires to try not to frequently interact with humans, in general, and just interact with them when they're going to kill them.
@-Arkin334 ай бұрын
So there's something that you keep saying, and I've seen some other people say too, that's not quite right. So this first book, this first adaption is "supposed" to be Louis' story, Louis' memory. Louis' POV. But it's not been Louis 100%. Since S1ep4, it's been mostly Claudia, with splashes here and there, of Louis. Then S2 has shifted back to being more Louis, but even as he's telling his POV, we're also still getting Claudias as well. And after, I think it was ep 2, it's actually been more Armand, than Louis or Claudia. Where Armand has actually been telling parts of the story that should have been from Louis, but he instead takes over... So when alot of people are like 'Louis this' 'Louis that' 'has Louis just been lying', 'is he not telling the truth', etc. Please remember that everything we've been told/everything we've seen so far. Has not just been Louis. Claudias turning in S1 was told from Claudias diaries, Louis wasn't even present when Daniel was reading it. The fight in ep 5, as we were told in S1, was from Claudias POV, again, her diaries. The only part we really got that could only have been Louis' (unless more in revealed next season) is the exchange between Loustat, up in the sky. And then both we re-told, but again still not by Louis or Louis' POV, but by Lestat. As part of a script, on a stay orchestrated and re-told itself. BY ARMAND... Louis is not the only one lying here. Louis is not the only one not telling the truth, or bending the truth. Louis is not the only "unreliable narrator" here. And out of everyone, Louis is actually the one who has the least amount of control over what he can and can't remember. Due to trauma and abuse, and loss, etc. But also because Armand has been in his mind for over 50yrs, mixing things around, like a bowl of ramen. Alot of his inability to remember, and lack of agency in retelling his own story/history... is not something he's doing intentionally. Or even actively. He clearly wants the truth, just as much as we do, just as much as Daniel does, even if it hurts him.

Lestat was their maker and was never actually part of the Paris Coven at any point, they put Claudia into this position when she joined... she got ambushed because they didn't even tell her the rules until AFTER. This episode messes me up every single time, it's so painful. Great review!

I don't understand why people are almost completely incapable of having any understanding for Louis in this situation. Him coming home to find out Claudia has not only broken yet another law. But that she's literally brought the evidence of said broken law into their home. A home that she hadn't even been living in, since she joined the coven. And she's there to ask him to risk his life and hers, to break another one. Completely for her own benefit... It's so rare to find a reactor, or even just people in the comment sections who afford Louis any grace or even try to see it from his side of things... He had every right and reason, when he walked into that apartment (and this is after Claudia freaked out on him, screamed and hollered at him, insulted him, destroyed some of his property. Then stormed out), to be mad. Coming home, to find Claudia actively breaking a law, and evidence of said broken law literally in his coffin... Which is his bed, something that even for humans is a very intimate private space. I mean just that alone... if you came home, and someone who you just had a nasty explosive fight with, was there, with some stranger (to you), and that person was IN YOUR BED, in YOUR SPACE. You would be mad too. So how are so many people seemingly incapable of understanding Louis there. Now on top of that, Louis is here in this country, for Claudia, he's dealing with this covin, for Claudia. It's a big part of why he's even putting up with Armand at all. He's been doing nothing but sacrificing his own wants and happiness, and bending over backwards for Claudia. For her happiness, to help her get and keep what she wants, to help her find somewhere where she feels she belongs. Her home. To protect her, in the only ways he can. And he's been doing it, for years. And lets not forget, for 4-5 of those years, she was treating him like shit... He gave up his home, his life, his own companion/lover, his own happiness, his own wants, his comfort, his own desires and needs. Even his own freedom and some of his agency, for her. And he's been doing it FOR YEARS... Only for her to continuously break law after law, that she made the decision to become subject to. Putting not only her life and safety in danger, but his as well. He keeps trying to build a "home" or some semblance of a home, keeps trying to get and keep some semblance of safety, stability and normalcy not just for himself, but for her as well. And she keeps, rather selfishly, doing these things to tear it down. And he keeps trying, not just for her, but for him as well. She didn't ask for his consent in this matter, she didn't talk to him ahead of time. There was no regard for him at all, she just did it. So yeah, of course he's going to be mad, of course he's going to express his anger and frustration. It's a very understandable and very appropriate reaction. And the thing is, Claudia herself clearly knows that, she knows what she's doing is not just OKAY. She knows she's putting him in a really messed up position AGAIN, and she knows she's messing things up for him, AGAIN. That's why she doesn't fight, she doesn't yell or attack him, she's not mean or angry or anything. She just says very calmly, "sit down lets try this again". She basically is saying 'I know you're upset, I know this looks bad, I know I fucked up. But we're getting off on the wrong foot. Sit down and let me explain'. And guess what, he does. Almost any other Vampire, in this same situation, would immediately have just killed this human woman (for simply being a in his literal coffin, uninvited by him in his home) and then would have fought her. But he doesn't. He's mad, he's frustrated, he's tired. But he sits down, he lets her explain and he listens. And guess what, as soon as he realizes that she's found herself love and companionship, and she's coming to him asking him to help her keep it. To give her something she never thought she could have, because she literally cannot do this for herself. That's all it takes. And of course he has to ask questions, he has to know what he's dealing with here, and he has to know how sure she is that this is what she wants. He's her father, her brother. He's not mad at her, for wanting a companion, he's not mad at her for coming to him for help. He's not trying to get in the way or act like she can't or shouldn't have this. And he's definitely not going to, or trying to stop her. Because what does he then do... Even though this will take Claudia from him (permanently), even though he'll be once again the one who gives up, who sacrifices. Even though he'll once again be the only one here who just loses, who doesn't get anything out of this, except for pain and loss. He still immediately does whatever he needs to do, and says whatever he needs to say, to get her this thing. FOR HER. Goes out of his own way, out of his own comfort, out of his own wants, etc... to get her what she wants, what she needs. Again. I just really wish people would be less willing to think the worst of Louis, and act like anything he does. Is somehow wrong. Like him having any emotions or reaction at all, is unacceptable... And would be more willing to afford him some grace, some understanding and at least try to see things from his side of it. No one has to love or even like his character. But he's no different then any of these other characters. He should be given the same grace and consideration, and empathy/understanding as everybody else. Ya'll seem to have more than enough of it for Claudia, literally no matter what she does or says or when she makes mistakes or poor decisions. Why does Louis get almost none at all.

Hi Sapphire, you wanted to know about shaving the women's hair. After WWII ended, the women that were either helping the Nazis, or had any affiliation with them, had their hair shaved like the Nazis did to the people in the concentration camps. It was a way to humiliate them for being allies to the Germans. Madeline was involved with a German officer, and this humiliation was a common thing at this time in France, and other places. Thank you for the reaction.
@Sapphire_Reacts4 ай бұрын
ah, thank you and that is absolutely terrible, like I doubt many even knew they were nazis or what if they were a family member and didnt share the same beliefs. like i am assuming they didnt do this with the men and what if they were forced too.
@ThatArabGirl104 ай бұрын
@@Sapphire_Reacts Some of them were forced to, that is true. I remember when I was in college, I had a professor who was a Jewish Holocaust survivor. She told us that some Jewish women, if they were blond, and blue eyed, were forced to work with or for the Nazis because they did not look Jewish. Some were spies, some were s*x workers, and in the end, they were caught by regular citizens like in the show, and humiliated publicly. Men were not shamed this way. Some were taken and either hung, or shot, and some got away. It seems that we, as women, were, and are always getting the brunt of everything.
@ThatArabGirl104 ай бұрын
@@Sapphire_Reacts Men were either hung, shot, or just got away. The women were beaten in the streets, had their hair shaved, and other things I cannot mention here. Some Jewish women, if they were blond/blue eyed, were used by the Nazis as spies, s** workers, and other things. Many times, these women knew that if they resisted, they'd be killed, or sent to a concentration camp. My professor in college was a Holocaust survivor, and she wrote several books about that kind of thing that happened at the end of WWII. I'm happy I can help.

This is possibly my favorite episode. Brilliant acting all around. This was the first of the season to be filmed so Hailey had time to get into the character of Claudia (which she also does brilliantly, as we've seen from the episodes filmed later but aired first). Sam Reid even came in to do the voiceover. They filmed the scenes in order, highly unusual. Particularly impressed with Assad Zaman in this one.

After WWII, French women who had sexual relationships with German soldiers were paraded through the streets, their hair was shaven and were publicly humiliated only to be imprisoned or ostracized. That's why Madeleine was a social outcast, and so detached from everyone else.

Yeah it would be pretty normal for parents and children to bathe together especially during the vague period in time this movie takes place. Japanese people don't really have all the hangups about nudity your average American does and to the extent that they do, they mostly learned it from us. Japanese people love to take baths and bathing can be sort of a social event. There are public baths everywhere. Most of the public ones are sex segregated, but at home families do bathe together. You can google something like "Japanese bathing culture" if you're curious about it. This movie is partially autobiographical. The founder of Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki's mother suffered from spinal tuberculosis and for about a decade spent most of her life inside of a hospital. If I remember correctly he changed the two child protagonists to girls, because if it was boys it would feel too personal to him.
