Genius idea for the heddle holder.
@freckledfiber Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm both a rigid heddle and floor loom weaver, and while I've successfully warped using a warping board, I keep thinking that for shorter, simple warps, it would be so much easier to have a direct warping option. The biggest pushback I see to this method is that "you have to sley the reed twice," but is that really such a problem? I don't think so. Thanks again; I really think this will demystify warping for people making the leap from RH to floor looms. :)
@darrenbarlow2972 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I’m glad my video helped you. I guess you may be able to do it without the reed. I use it to spread the warp evenly and to keep a count of my threads

I love this! I bought a floor loom after falling in love with my rigid heddle. And there if has sat for 3 years because I couldn’t wrap my head around indirect warping and measuring the yarn. I woke up one morning thinking why not try direct warping?! What have I got to lose?! So I’m thrilled to see I’m not alone! Thanks for the video!

Great idea with the board and hooks! I know what my next hacking project is, thanks! Direct warping is so much faster than a warping mill, mine always turns into a rat nest by the time I'm done that way...
@darrenbarlow2972 Жыл бұрын
Mine too. What I do when I’ve finished threading the reed and wind on what ever sett I’m doing I pull that amount out of the reed so that they are in groups for me to thread the heddle. I use hair clips to do that much quicker that knotting. The ones that are bent and you spring them shut.

I am going from Rigid Heddle to Floor and honestly, this seems like the easier method, especially if doing solo. I wasn't sure how it could be done, but you've demonstrated it perfectly.
@darrenbarlow29722 жыл бұрын
Thank you. When winding on I get my wife to hold the bar with the hooks on a pull back when I wind on but when she’s unable to help me I just attach either a bag of sugar or weights on each end then let it drag along the floor until it’s to my loom. Good luck.
@KristinMoran Жыл бұрын
I recently purchased a warping bar from @fiberlovediary for my rigid heddle loom but I was thinking it might also work for the floor loom I recently purchased secondhand. She has some videos demonstrating, but basically, there's a bottom bar with pegs. You measure the warp, then add a top bar which holds the warp in place, hold the two bars together as you wind the warp around them, keeping everything under tension as you approach the loom, and you don't need a second person.
@tocko14 Жыл бұрын
I have the same warping bar from fiber love! And I just bought an 8 shaft Ashford table loom. I'm def going to direct warp! But, I have a question. So you wind up the warp onto the back beam and it's already threaded thru the beater, so do you take each thread from the beater and thread your heddles and then thread back thru the beater again?
@darrenbarlow2972 Жыл бұрын
Yes when I take them out of the beater bar I use hair clips to keep them in separate bunches then thread my heddles then the beater again. The hair clips I use are the ones which you just put the threads in then snap it closed it’s much quicker than knotting them

Darren that is a fab idea! Trying it now on my Louet Kombo - I'm weaving doublecloth with a cotton warp and on the underneath picks my shuttle keeps taking a nose dive through! Hopefully this will solve the problem :)
@darrenbarlow29723 жыл бұрын
I hope so. I think all table looms should have a shuttle race on. Let's hope one of them see my video and do it.

Let me know?
@Handmade_at_Harcles3 жыл бұрын
@@darrenbarlow2972 It works like a dream! The Kombo has the advantage that the breast beam is further back too, so it doesn't even mean I have less weaving space. The elastic bands mean I can adjust the height of the race (also to clear the head of the bolt that fastens the loom to its stand). I hope Ashford and Louet see this and take note :) Thanks from "sunny" Lancashire :D
