Used to live on Lee Ave. in the 1950's. And my Dad took the train to downtown Chicago. I have great memories as a child there. Loved living there.

@@AustinWeiss Probably the time era, it was kind of a Norman Rockwell type town. Loved our house, our woods, on an acre and a third. The neighbors, life was good then. And just the feeling you had just living there. Learning how to ice skate. They had a really big pool with a high dive. So glad I started out my life there. I live in WA. State now. I want to come back sometime. I know my old house is gone, but I Google map it now and then, and it still seems special.

Oak Park did have something but ever since they started allowing some changes and certain people to trash it and make it look like garbage not the best place anymore.

Here's why not...second highest taxes both retail and property of any city and state. Very expensive to park anywhere near downtown. Extremely high crime especially violent crime everywhere throughout the city including the heart of downtown. Michigan Ave and areas of downtown have many abandoned businesses, they left. Owners of Watertower gave the keys back to the bank. Average to below average public schools regarding academic rankings. Everyone leaving Chicago and Illinois. Do your research.

I've lived in Downers Grove from age 9 to age 19. I graduated from Downers Grove South! I can't say nothing but great things about Downers Grove!! I can't wait until I can move back there one day!! ❤

"Small town living with limited diversity of cultures and perspectives" = unlike Chicago, it's not overrun with illegal immigrants, "urban" criminals, terrorist sympathizers and homeless bums and cuthroats. Sounds like Heaven. Chicago 70 years a go had the *good* kind of diversity with it's wonderful "melting pot" of ethnic neighborhoods. Now it's a Balkanized toilet.

Really should check out Northwest suburbs, Arlington Hts, Mt Prospect, Park Ridge, old beautiful neighborhoods, all have metro stations, great schools

Seems like Minneapolis is active and fun for a suburban feel, performing well for a city of its size. But Chicago is undefeated for true city life, which I prefer. More comparable to NYC or San Francisco.

Some parts of Downers Grove are exceptional. It’s better than Elmhurst. It’s a beautiful town.

All the cons are what I consider pros, especially "small town living with limited perspectives of diversity and culture". In other words: its an actual American town, like America use to be; not a miserable Babel of Balkanized, multicultural-and therefore-no-distinct culture confusion where you lose your identity in the chaos. Sold!
