Lived here for 25 years. It has changed greatly, losing open land to housing developments. New people moving in are more concerned about the interiors of their homes and what cars they drive. Many developments have declined in their curb appeal over the years. So sad it’s turned into an area of the what haves 😢

I do think being closer to the highway, having quick access to the train and Downtown Naperville had its advantages. District 203 has higher ratings for elementary and middle schools, and the high schools have a stellar reputation.

Yes D203 tends to have higher ratings for primary schools and the high schools definitely have a stellar reputation. We take the train often to Chicago and jump on the highway to visit family in nearby suburbs.

My wife and I are in our late 20s/early 30s and have been thinking about emigrating to the USA for a long time, as I can work from anywhere in the world with my own company. Naperville smiles very strongly at us as it seems incredibly idyllic, not too small & not too big + the close connection to a city like Chicago is of course also tempting. All in all, your video only reinforced our impressions. We're going to see the whole thing live soon 😊

Thank you! I am moving from Israel to the states and I research cities . It sounds like a wonderful place, and so green ! It reminds me of how Seattle streets look in the greener neighborhoods, yet it is much safer according to statistics and smaller (which I think is great - medium sized towns are nice ) Thanks for sharing ! Grew up in Mokena and lived all over the US (LA, Atlanta, Valparasio, Huntsville, Omaha). I considered Crystal Lake but St Charles and the surrounding 2 towns and stuff around the river sealed the deal for me. The problem with Mokena, Tinley and Frankfort, Orland Park that made me move away is the random rift raft that all too often comes in and commits crime, friend of mine was held at gun point on 30 and all my favorite irish bars are now shaddy as hell.. St Charles's lack of train/bus access to Chicago is more of a blessing than a curse, trust me.

Your statements about the three original, downtown Naperville schools being the ONLY ones could be misleading. The city of Naperville has IPSD 203 & 204 with many, many schools all over.

Residential PARKING seems to be left out of almost all these stories about Oak Park. The village has a great many "three story walk up" apartment buildings that were converted to condos. They do not have any parking. You need to get a street parking permit, rent in somebody private residential garage, or pay for a space in a lot. So, if you are looking into one of those condos in the old buildings and have a car(s) you have an issue. For some newer buildings (like some made in the 1960's roughly) there may be onsite parking, but it may be outdoors only.
@trainliker100
@trainliker100 2 ай бұрын
The building construction in Oak Park has changed a LOT in recent decades. For a very long time, the tallest building was the Medial Arts building (the grey building at 6:04 in the video), the five story Oak Park Arms, and a building or two in the Lake/Marion district. Now there are many high-rise residential complexes. I think the village did this to increase the density and perhaps get more property tax revenue.

I lived there for 3 years and liked it at first but after about a few months I couldn't wait to get out. It is a beautiful village but that's just a facade. The property crime there is pretty bad, the people living there are sitting ducks for the gangbangers that live just across the street in Austin. A parent was recently carjacked while in line to pickup their child from school. Thus, the residents seem very unfriendly and withdrawn.(I never made a single friend there) Also, the food scene is pretty bad in Oak Park, they don't even have a decent pizza place. The food in OP is mediocre at best but they charge like it's a 5 star restaurant. Thankfully there are good food options in the surrounding towns. Public transit there is really good tho! To end my rant, living in Oak Park red-pilled me, I think it's good for some people but not me! Peace out Oak Park , thanks for nothing!

Yes, St Charles is beautiful now. But, I've watched it change since 1977. It's become very commercialized. It use to be a quant small town where people knew each other. The best part were the ducks. They came first here. Mom and her babies walking across the downtown side streets from the river. Everyone in their cars always waited for them to cross. It was so awesome! You could even go down to Pottawatomie park and feed them. Then St Charles started to grow and people were moving in from other places and honking at the ducks to move from the streets. It was pathetic! Once a beautiful small quant town with character and beautiful nature is now getting over populated. Not to mention how overly expensive the houses have become. But, I guess its all about the big dollar instead of preserving is character. The people who have moved there now have no idea how great it was before. And unfortunately, they never will.

Disagree with you about #4. The job market in Chicago is brutal. When I lived in North Dakota, I could always at least get an interview, even for jobs I didn't feel qualified for. I've lived here in Chicago for six years and have been relegated to menial jobs in retail and services. I've had maybe five interviews in all the time I've lived here. If you're lucky enough to get a job here, you can make a good salary, and your money will go further. However, just getting an interview is a big hurdle to climb.

It would be dependent on the career field, experience and education/training one has. I have helped plenty of people move to the Chicago area from out of state and country who have been promoted, or found a new job.

@@AustinWeiss I think there are jobs here for people with special skills, and it’s fairly easy here to find low-wage jobs in retail or services… However, everything else - the “in-between” jobs - is hard to come by. One also has to contend with the nepotism, politics as well as (reverse) racism which sadly is prevalent in Chicago. This is also a VERY unfriendly place for small businesses, with the high taxes, bureaucracy and rampant property crime. Cheers.
