Angling up as in closing the angle a bit (less degrees) right before the transition? Or am I misinterpreting?
@olof103eriksson
@olof103eriksson Жыл бұрын
This was actually something I needed an answer for cause in several competitions we see this sometimes gaining higher scores so I sent this to both a FD and a DMEC judge to find answers These two looks very similar but its two what you would call completely different driving techniques. To get all the zones I need to change several aspects of the driving from the starting line The top one is a angle up (higher angle) just before transitioning while the other one doesnt have that If you look at judging criteria theres no clear answer to which one of these would score higher, none of the runs make any relevant corrections and both fill the line. One looks like you have higher angle (especially depending on camera positioning) while the other one is a lot easier to chase (which is what they are supposed to look for)

@@olof103eriksson aaaaah, ye makes sense. Ive never understood that part myself.. Now.. I havent read up as much as you on the topic, but I certainly hope you find some answers. Hard to compete if the judges taste affects the scores. Especially if its not mentioned somewhere before a specific comp. Gonna be a guessing game then 😅🫠

Hi Olof! Awesome runs! Got some questions for ya. I noticed most good AC drivers don't use handbrake much when chasing, it's mostly LFB. Meanwhile a lot of successful IRL drivers mostly do handbrake pulls and very few utilize LFB (i.e. NikNak is an exception). 1) Would you say you can't be as effective when chasing while mostly doing handbrake pulls in AC? 2) Do you have any thoughts on why the technique is different between IRL and AC?
@olof103eriksson
@olof103eriksson Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you :) 1. I would say its the same effectiveness IRL and in AC 2. First of all I am quite hard on not using hand brake because the downsides of it is most often worse than the positives, secondly the drivers in the digital world are a lot better technique wise and a small amount of speed drop will show a lot more. Another reason is that in the digital world you are always on the perfect day while in real life the track changes even between runs and its more uncertain what the driver in front will do All in all I see the handbrake as a tool to correct when you mess up, so as long as you are in the right spot I wouldnt use it IRL either. I tend to mess up more IRL, most often because less practice laps and less predictable track, or using it as a protection from my self damaging expensive race cars :)

@@olof103eriksson thank you very much for such a well thought out and easy to understand answer! Your arguments do make a lot of sense. Seems like I need to work on my LFB technique for AC if I wanna get doors. Any car setup tips that’ll help with that? The thing I struggle with the most is when the car gains too much angle under brakes. It doesn’t look good at all :(

Jag körde i diket och förstörde framvagnen på min 340 när jag följde denna guide. Det är en 88a, kan problemet vara att min är av fel årsmodell?
@olof103eriksson
@olof103eriksson 2 жыл бұрын
Jag tror att det absolut störta felet du kan ha gjort är att lyssna på mig, i andrahand kan det vara 88orna, till dem kunde man välja till servo och då blev det struligt för chauffören att veta hur mycket man skulle styra 88an

Olof Eriksson Excellent. I have a 1984 5 door model that is totally original. I don't like the post 1984 models. I have been trying to get hold of a 1980/1981 5 door model but they are so rare in the UK. I love my Volvo.

+1100HondaCB I think they are rare everywhere! 5 door 345 2 liter theres only 87 left in sweden! I agree with you, the older ones were better! My 82 with turbo is in my workshop getting 70mm lower and a tune up with fuel injection

Olof Eriksson The 345s in any guise are even rarer in the UK. Probably about less than 20 left in total. Still a few post 1986 models around but they are not as desirable as the pre 1985 models and 345s. I was lucky to get my 1984 340 5 door.
