My Chilli Con Carne was in the Slow Cooker just before I watched this video. It's the same ingredients more or less but I now boil and simmer my Onions with some Turmeric Powder rather than fry them. Mince was made into mini-meatballs as an experiment. However it turns out- it will be tasty and two meals worth.

An absolutley solid recipe which I can't recommend higher enough! Have cooked this a bunch of times now. I double up the ingredients (except kidney beans and red chilli) which cooks plenty for four people. Pro-tips I've found to improve the flavour is to cook the mince until you start getting a few dark brown cripsy bits (think smashburger), then remove and add onions, scrap up the beefy goodness once onions start letting their water out. Once their transparent add the garlic and chilli for 20-30 seconds, then add the tomato puree for 30s to 1min, then re-add the mince. Mix until combined, add some water from the tomato tins to make sure nothing tasty is left in the pan and continue as per the video.

Hi Simon how many servings does this recipe make? Also- if I leave it in longer than 6 hours, is this ok? I want to make it before I go to work ideally so that its ready for when I come back. Thanks for the great recipe!
@SimonsKitchenUK7 ай бұрын
Yes, you can! Put everything in your slow cooker but set it to "Low" and you can cook it for 6-8 hours with no problem. As regards the servings, depends on how big your servings are but I would say for me it will serve 4 hungry people with rice! Thanks for your comments and I hope you enjoy it!

I am 81 and have enjoyed drinking a warm cup of boullion in the winter for many years, but even with all those years experience I never learned how to easily crush the cube...until now! Every method I ever tried involved removing the cube first then using pliers, a hammer or whatever else I could find. Your are a genius Simon!!! Roland Knott, Tucson, Arizona, USA

Do you cook the beans before putting them in the slow cooker?
@SimonsKitchenUK Жыл бұрын
No as I use canned beans, so if you use dried you need to cook them first and then put them in.

I tend to put the beans in 1-2 hours before the end and some dark chocolate and fresh chopped chilli at final 30 min.

That’s a good idea and I would do the same. Thank you for your comment. This recipe was really designed to just put everything in and leave until you get back from work and enjoy! But it’s a valid point if you have the time

Me too with the beans, I find that they stay firmer and have a better colour if you put them in an hour before the end.

I have seen some recipes for chilli in a slow cooker that suggested adding the kidney beans 30 minutes before the end of the cooking time. Have you every done this? Is there any difference?
@SimonsKitchenUK Жыл бұрын
Yes I usually put the kidney beans in near the end of cooking on the hob, I find the beans are slightly more crunchy. The idea of my slow cooker recipe was just to put all the ingredients in and leave it until cooked, especially if you have a busy day ahead! Thanks watching and taking the time to comment!

can't the meat be added and cooked in the slow cooker as well? other wise what's the point of having a slow cooker?
@SimonsKitchenUK Жыл бұрын
Yes you can add the meat raw in the slow cooker if you wish but browning off the meat first gives more depth of flavour. Let me know how it turns out!
@InsaneHunter01 Жыл бұрын
@@SimonsKitchenUK Cooked my first batch of chili with raw ground beef in the slow cooker. Because of the spices added, you don't notice much difference in the taste of the beef. But you do notice a slight difference in it's texture. Cooked on high heat for 9 hours. Stirring or mixing the chili 2 times during the cooking process. Once at the 2.5 hour mark, and another at 5 hours.

@SimonsKitchenUK Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment and feedback, perhaps I should have shown the dish at the end, however the photo of the thumbnail is actually the dish I made. Cauliflower rice is just cauliflower florets pulsed gently a few times in a food processor until it looks like normal rice.

Hello my darlin. Just wondered if the mince comes out lovely and tender as I suffer from a problem in my jaw and bought a slow cooker to hopefully make some more edible, delicious meals! My OH he doesn't like kidney beans, so drained baked beans it will have to be! Haha. Easier for my baby too with bell peppers instead of chilli. Thanks for the video 😊

Easy to follow I made two. One as per the recipe with a small tweak, instead of too liquidy, I switched to too runny. Maybe a pinch too much salt but GGF loved it, but her heart monitor didnt! My fault. Second one I stuck with too liquidy, added onions and chillis. Mmm. Easy to follow. Good camera work My next one will be perfect. Thanks Simon!
