I enjoyed the video. I have to agree with the commenter who wrote that the demo (pre-bass) sounds a lot like Brian Wilson, especially the vocal track. I have to admit I've never heard the power chords in "I Want to Hold Your Hand" before; I was shocked when you included that isolated bass clip. Also, walking bass lines may have originally become popular in jazz but were extremely common and popular in rock and roll and pop before Paul and The Beatles.

Hmm... to really nail a bass part, youre going to want to write bass for someone elses song. Paul shines when he's creating a part for someone else. Its much easier to create outside the "box" of a given song you didnt write. On your demo, youre still making sure to strike every root note when its hit on the piano. Paul rarely did that.

bruhhh why is this vid so underrated sooo coool. i am a music producer myslef and i can relate, when everything comes thogether it is so nice. Btw do you know some good guitar samples i want to play a guitar riff like you did 00:24 ( in a daw) but it always sounds so unnatural.
@CherriiCakes26 күн бұрын
use ample guitar M lite II, and play with velocities so it sounds human if you use fl studio, there is a humanizer for velocities and note starts so it doesn't sound robotic

Nice breakdown of the specific techniques McCartney used, but what's important to note is the way he used them all to create really musical lines that functioned as counterpoint melodies and rhythmic interplay that was really fresh and new in rock and pop music. McCartney was never just playing a more busy or complex part just for the sake of it, it was always really adding something musically worthwhile to the song (the same is true for all of the Beatles really). His style was so influential that we hardly think much about it when we hear bass parts that do all that, but as your demo shows, the difference between his style and when the bass is just sort of filling the low end without adding any additional melodic or harmonic interest is really apparent and striking. EDIT: BTW, as a musician fast approaching age 60, I'm really glad to see younger musicians still understanding what an absolute treasure trove of ideas and inspiration and textbook examples of how to make great rock and pop music The Beatles catalog is. If you want to learn to write and arrange and play great rock and pop songs, there's no better place to start, IMO.

wish the piano played one or two octaves higher to not muddy up the warm sound of the guitar bc holy shit the guitar needs its own space! amazing work! :D
