I cut way too many trees before I realized this. My partially shaded hives have as many as full sun hives. The only difference is that my full sun hives suffer from heat more than partly or mostly shaded hives.

I started beekeeping in 2020. There is such a lot to learn and any bee keeper must oberve what Randy Oliver does /has done. He is by the way a formidable opponent of the wishfull thinking fraternity! I found his strips are a worthy alternative to fogging with O acid. Why I do not know anly to add that our bees are not infested as of 2024. I bought one colony where I killed 1300 mites at least in the season I bought them. Frederick rightly said that's terrible & it was. The seller of that colony did not seem bothered at all about the fact and was proud that he did not use chemicals on his bees but I think due to my experience it was about time he used something on his infested stock. He said -- 'when you've gone out the gate you are on your own ' ! Regarding the fumigation that I carried out was not that effective at 4 gramms as per Dr Cameron Jack's research. I noted his research said 1 gram was useless 7 4 grams was regarded a lot in some way of thinking Dr Jack said 4 gram was an appropriate amount. I found that mites were numerous afdter the fumigation & that the strips continued to kill better than any fumigation that I then stopped but continued to apply the stips to very good effect. It seems to make no sense at all that the mite drop seemed to increase with the continued stips attack but then slowly drindled to NIL. I thought that the 'extrended release idea' was fabulous looking at the whole problem 'though engineers eyes'. It seems incredible to me and I see from others why the idea was not 'heralded by a fanfare of trumpets' but seems to remain an unimportant 'finding'?

I don't understand the comment that a five day interval for OAV kills more mites than a three day interval. May be equal and that is doubtful but how is it more???? My understanding is that the foundress mite can re enter a cell about to be capped shortly after exiting previous cell. If that is so and OA from vapor barely lasts a day, a five day interval for OAV will not greatly reduce mites when brooding is occurring. ?????????

HI guys! Thanks for tagging me in this. I'm so glad he addressed fogging, it's a question I frequently receive and I've never endorsed it. Thank you for this valuable topic coverage. We'll bee seeing all of you soon.

Dear Frederick I thought you were very much in favour of oxalic acid sublimation? I found the strips were better than the fogging - hands down. I am grateful that there are no mites on our bees now as of 2024. I feel this is entirely due to the strips, legal or not........ I always think it 'right' to keep an open mind on all things? best wishes and I must say I am grateful to you of your wonderful tuition from your beekeeping and am etrernally grateful of your expertise which I have learned and obtained just a fraction of, by observing your fantastic videos on You Tube. Sincere thanks.

Very Helpful talk. Thx guys. Question. When using OAV, can we do this from the top, rather than from the bottom of the hive? Why is it everyone does OAV from the bottom? Wouldn't it be more affective doing it from the top?

OA is the best I think if you start hitting them mid August 3 grams once a week every week until you get two rounds we’re queens are not laying it’s a pain in the ass doing this takes alote of work but it will keep mites down
@tylerholton2983Ай бұрын
In most cases if the mites are high in August you are too late to do much about it the bees are already pretty sick with mites.
